Wedding presents still in use

Sorry! My post only makes sense if I remember to add the photo!!

This stainless steel serving dish. Stainless steel was very popular in the early sixties.
The large fork belonged to my granny and then my mother. It was used in the old days for beating the Yorkshire pudding batter. I still use it for cooking.
The knife used to have a green handle and was a gift to my mum from my father. It's for slicing tomatoes. Very much a modern item in its day. I still use the knife, but for piercing potatoes and veg to test if they are done.

I still have some cut glass fruit bowls that an aunt gave us nearly 60 years ago. The large bowl that went with it I lent to someone who broke it.

We have our cutlery set, stainless steel from 59 years ago, also a Pyrex bowl and a tray given by a great aunt.

I have a breadboard and the sharpest of sharp serrated bread knife from my parents' wedding presents in 1940. Used daily. Plus their green enamel bread tin.

From our wedding a Moulinex liquidiser used daily for the last 2 years to make banana milkshakes, an orange Le Creuset casserole, Dartington glasses, only 2 left of Whitefriars sundae dishes, brown Wedgewood Sterling soup dishes and plates, a Habitat decanter, a Dartington decanter. These last 2 not used but nice to look at. Who does use a decanter these days I wonder? And a Le Creuset fondue set used a lot in the 70s but not for years and years now. I remember a wooden fruit bowl not in use now...but where is it? I could use it now. I shall have a search.

We have a set of stainless steel mixing bowls. Nearly 63 years old and still in constant use.

Thank you Witzend; I’ll probably just stick with the new one. I assume it will last the same 52 years 😂. I just can’t say goodbye to the old one!

We had, and I still have, a large pottery bowl with our names and the date of our wedding in 1965. It was made by the wife of an uncle who was a professional potter. They were much loved and I treasure their bowl.

That's a lovely keepsake to have - so personal.

This is an interesting post and shows the difference in generations . I was 29 when I met my dh and we both had a property and had most of the things we needed . Infact we doubled up on lots of things .. We had a wedding list at John Lewis and struggled to find stuff to put on it .

A le Creuset casserole; serving dishes & a big salad bowl; my sideboard still used after 40 years.
Duvet covers, a rug and tablecloths have all worn out or moved on though.

My ironing board is still going strong.
It's only in the last couple of years that a kitchen swing-bin received as a wedding present was finally replaced.

I can't think of anything else.

But I do have small table with a lift-up top that was made and given to my parents when they married, and a few things from my grandma's house that might possibly have been given to her and my grandad when they married.
Those things mean a lot to me.

Quite a lot of untensils that my Mum bought me in John Lewis to kit me out

A huge wooden pepper mill and 2 wooden spoons that came as a set with some other wooden stuff but some of it got woodworm

I also have, and use, one of my Grandmother's tablespoons which is from their wedding present cutlery (1914)

I forget about the orange Le Creuset casserole which we still use as it’s perfect for two being 20 cm diameter.

It was our Golden Wedding this year. We are still using the China my parents gave us and a couple of the saucepans. I still have the wooden bread board my parents were given in 1952.

Quite a lot of things, really, including glassware, vases, a clothes airer, casserole dishes, a dinner service, towels to name a few.

My Kenwood Chef dates back to late 1972, A special buy from Tesco, and I made sure I bought it on a Tuesday so that I got double Green Shield stamps.

From my wedding we still have: the beautiful antique chest of drawers my parents -in-law gave me, my best dinner set and canteen of cutlery, towels. We had a quiet wedding, 20 guests, even the priest performing the ceremony was family, so quite a small crop of wedding presents. One towel is still in use as dusters.

My trusty old Kenwood Chef. We did once have to get it repaired and serviced, but that can’t be bad for a present bestowed in 1974!

The only other present we still have is a lovely little Indian silver box, from a sister who asked whether I’d like something beautiful and useless.🙂

My 1974 Kenwood started playing up mid baking for a sale. DH replaced it immediately via on line purchase. The old Kenwood languishes in the garage.

If you ever feel like fixing the old one, IIRC it was a co. in Fareham that we used, It was a bit of a palaver packing it up, but the cost for both repair and service, plus return P&P, did seem very reasonable.

I almost forgot.... I still have the set of Prestige stainless steel kitchen utensils we were given as a wedding present.

I still use my Wedgwood dinner and tea plates. The rest of the dinner, tea and coffee services I recently gave to a charity shop. All in perfect condition and well used.
I also still use the same ironing board.
It's had several changes of cover over the last sixty two years.

I have a gravy boat and the large platter that you would put a chicken or turkey on ,that's all that's left of the full set of pyrex dishes given to us by my SIL 58 years ago, also still have a full set of knives with wooden handles hardly been used .

I was married 60 years ago and no idea what I had to be honest, not an iota, I was married for the second time 48 years ago and no idea what we had then either 😂😂anyway he’s long gone too 😂

I’m still using the cutlery that my husband’s employer gave us. They asked what we wanted and I said a good steam iron, but the boss’s wife vetoed that and got us a canteen of cutlery, in a wooden box no less. The box is long gone and I suspect that the iron wouldn’t have lasted as long.

We still have the two Chelsea Pyrex casseroles an aunt gave us. Only now we also have 250 other pieces that match them. My collecting got out of hand!

Married in 1971. Still have a few plates of the pyrex "Chelsea" design, a few odds and ends of Viners "Shape" cutlery but best of all my Kenwood Chefette. In perfect working condition!
