Everyone seems to have one cleaning trick that makes life easier. What's your favorite tip or hack that actually works and saves time?

Read a book, play a game, do a jigsaw watch TV 🤣🤣🤣

After four years the dust doesn't get any worse. Quentin Crisp.

Remove glasses.

Not owning an iron.
Smooth and fold when getting off the line. Put shirts on a hanger and hang straight not the line.
My lovely neighbour showed me how to do this many years ago.

Meet friends for coffee/lunch/afternoon tea………if I’m not there to make a mess it won’t get any worse will it?

Seriously though, what's the best thing with which to clean a stainless steel sink?

Smileless2012 Fri 17-Jul-26 12:42:43

Bicarbonate of soda works well loopyloo.

I put everything in the tumble dryer for just a few minutes then hang them up. If clothes are creased from packing I hang them in the bathroom and run a bath of hot water. I haven't ironed anything for years either.

If you haven't worked that out by now, it probably doesn't matter.

Buy stainless steel cleaner, spray it on and wipe it off. Good for fridges, too.

nanna8 Fri 17-Jul-26 13:59:56

Oh and ants don’t like disinfectant if you follow their trails with it - poof, they disappear.

Gran22boys Fri 17-Jul-26 14:24:45

Soda crystals dissolved in hot water cuts grease. I use it to clean brushes. Works a treat.

loopyloo Fri 17-Jul-26 14:28:55

Butter and Jam.
I live in hope that a new better solution becomes available!

Not a very nice response to a genuine question? Imo I don’t understand why people respond to threads that they obviously have no interest in sad.

My stainless steel sink gets everything down it including unsupervised builders never used anything other than dishwasher. Not a stain to be seen and it must be at least twenty years old. It is scratched though but just taken on a mat finish

Put things back where they belong when you have finished using them.

Or in Grandma's words, "Have a place for everything, and everything in its place."

This saves time, prevents stress, and makes it unnecessary to run around like a hen with its head off tidying up just before the visitors arrive.

NotAGran55 Fri 17-Jul-26 14:36:24

Watch a man do it.

Silvershadow Fri 17-Jul-26 14:38:19

Bar Keepers Friend is the answer for stainless steel sinks. Somebody on here recommended it once, I bought it and it was every bit as good as she said it was. I also bleach the sink out every weekend with a scourer pad.

The condenser in my tumble dryer is always full of dog hair. I was going to buy a washing machine hair trapper thinking that they did, indeed trap the hair but they just get the hair off the garments. I suppose it means that there won’t be as much hair in the tumble dryer as it will be better removed in the wash but dies that mean my washing machine filter will need de clogging? She isn’t even a very hairy dog, being a whippet.

Always spend 10 minutes clearing up before going to bed, then there’s nothing nasty lying around when you get up.
