Would you turn your freezer off when you went away? If not, why turn your fridge off?

In the days when electrical wiring was less safe than nowadays and appliance electrics ditto there might have been some point in it, but it is something I have never done, at least for a holiday.

When we had a holiday home where we were leaving the house empty for month at a time, we did turn off power and water when we left, but when we were in the holiday home for periods up to a fortnight we never turned anything off in our permanent home.

Have never thought of doing this . There is always something inside that needs refrigeration while we are away.

We did, years ago, and used to drain down the water system, too, but it’s not something we’ve done for decades now. In fact, I’d forgotten we used to do that until I saw this thread!

No never, I'm away for 2 months at a time.
I sometimes have random people staying at mine, so I don't want them fiddling with the appliances.

Not "dodgy" random, I mean various people I know and trust!

The fridge is about the only electrical item I DO leave on. I try to make sure everything will be in date when I get back (not always successfully!)

Not that I go on trips of more than a few days now.

Why would you do that?

No never.

Do other people turn the fridge off when going on holiday? I can’t manage to reach the plug to switch it off at the socket.
