Air Con units

My son has one. He has one of these modern 3 stores houses. The top 2 bedroom get very warm so he put an Air con unit between the two rooms as his girls sleep in those. He said it makes a huge difference. Sure he got it from John Lewis.

Be mindful of the fact that the ones situated outside can be noisy , so you might think carefully where it might be placed with regard to neighbours

I dithered and dithered because we may well not have a serious heatwave this year.

But what decided me in the end was remembering how uncomfortable we were when the temperatures were above 30+ and the fact that DH has a heart condition and on one holiday with the temperature at 35c he looked and felt quite poorly. It was only the air conditioned coach which improved matters.

We have one in our conservatory. Warm in winter. Change settings , cool in summer. Get someone who really knows their way around air conditioners. The size you need in relative to the space you need to be warmed or cooled. We are very happy with ours.

We have air con in several rooms, I'd hate to do without.

We have it in bedrooms and lounge. Best thing we ever did! Cool in summer, warm in winter. I think ours is a Toshiba. Away at mo so can’t check

What I have learned is that the more you spend the better it works and be sure the room size matches the air con capabilities otherwise you will be wasting your money. Glass heats up quickly so thick drapes on the sunny windows will help too. Also open shaded windows for cool air in the mornings to be off to a good start.

How could we be worried about heat already? What a silly bunch. I will be worried about being too cold in a fleeting moment. Then it will be Christmas!

We have them in all 4 bedrooms , we bought them about 4 years ago and wouldn't be without them now. The unit is fitted inside the room and vented through the wall to the outside where it vents both water and hot air. We installed them ourselves (well my sons did) they operate via remote control.
The sticker on them says "PUMP HOUSE" which means nothing to me but they were recommended by our local air conditioning store, cost around 500 quid each unit and we cant fault them tbh.

Yes, portable one in the bedroom. It really is the difference between sleeping or not.

Where do you live? Here (outer SW London) we’ve had some extremely hot summers when having AirCon would really have been a blessing.

We bought one 4 years ago. DH has breathing issues especially in hot weather. We perhaps only use it 6 times a year … but do reassuring to have it!

I couldn’t live without mine. Have had them for years and I live in Scotland!! Ours are Mitsubishi and tbh if you have dogs, they’re a God send

We have a garden room in which we have a wall mounted one. It is also a heater in the winter. Can be programmed time and temperature . It’s brilliant but really sorry don’t know the make

I also have two portable Delonghi Pinguino, we have holes drilled through the walls for the heat extraction. They can't perform miracles and are not as efficient as an exterior unit would be, but they were far less expensive. We have one in our bedroom and one in the living room and they make a huge difference to me on really hot days.
Obviously they're relatively expensive to run, so I only run them if it is very hot.

I should add that I take a lot of trouble to shut the windows and curtains and to lower the awning whilst the sun is on that side. If the temperature outside drops below the inside temperature in the evening I open the windows to get a through draught. This means that I don't need to use the air-con quite as much.

We have installed units in the living room and the bedroom. Best investment we have spent on our house. They were £2500 each but we have had them about 5 years.

Forgot to say we have an electric car with very cheap electricity at night. So the bedroom unit is really cheap to run at night.

I can't stand them. They dry my throat, my eyes and my skin. I worked in Turkey for 13 years and never turned the one in my apartment on, I had a black car over there and only used to switch the air con to cool the car enough to get in then drive with the windows open.

Funny how they can affect us differently. They can be very drying. My partner can't stand them but I hate feeling too hot. But I do have thyroid problems which somehow affects my ability to control my own temperature.

Had an airconditioning/heat exchanger unit for years. Located outside and it is not noisy. Love it in the simmer and when really cold in winter months use it to boost temperature in back of house. No idea about the mobile type units.

We have a mobile chiller unit, works a treat, cost about £120 three years ago.
