Spiders! 🕷 🕷

As usual I fell asleep on the sofa last night and woke up to find a dead spider next to me . On the subject of conkers, just be careful if anyone has a dog because, like acorns they are poisonous to them. I am going to put some in inaccessible places though? Do they have to be newish ones?

I have found conkers work very well and also I spray in corners with a citronella spray which seems to help as well.
I really don't like spiders as they run too fast but still try to catch them and put them outside - not always very successful at this.

I couldn't find the one which was abseiling or bungee jumping from the bedroom curtain yesterday but noticed spider poo on the curtain this morning.
Wish I'd put it outside now.

I am pathetically terrified of spiders and can’t move as fast as I once did (!)
I will be hoovering like a mad woman and collecting Conkers as soon as they start dropping off the trees 👍

My back seized up last night and I was on childminding duties today and had to sort it, so I put Voltarol on it, took some paracetamol and slept on the floor on my Shakti mat and all I could think of, lying on the floor, was spiders! Thankfully I fell asleep quite quickly!

We use a child’s fishing net to catch and release butterflies straying into the conservatory . Works a treat with spiders too, they happily crawl in and enjoy a ride to the end of the garden. I then turf them out by a shed, don’t mind if they take up residence in there. At the moment the conservatory is play group for baby spiders, could be a challenge ahead for the fishing net.

They are considered harmless, but they do bite, as DD discovered when she unwittingly sat on a large one. No I’ll effects of course.

Yes, I put a very large fat one outside yesterday on a lavender Bush and now m worried it might not survive as it's rather chilly this evening.
There was a smaller one abseiling up and down from the bedroom curtain this morning, hope it's not on my pillow now.

The way they move makes me feel so shaken that I’ve been know to be sick on them. Only another person who shares my fear of them knows how seeing one affects me.
Unlike Australia where it’s very common to have your home sprayed against them (as many there are poisonous) there’s nothing similar in the UK as an anti spider service. But. You can do it yourself. There’s many sprays available to keep ants away. This also acts against spiders. Spray all around the edge of rooms, windows and doors. On first starting to use the spray it seems to last up to 3 months. After a few years, it can last up to 12 months.
Again I apologise. I know spiders can’t hurt me yet I have to know that any coming into my home never get the chance to return.

Ive never killed a spider. I used to put them carefully outside if I found them but now I just leave them be. I cant imagine what they find to eat. Thats their problem.

My cleaner found one in the small downstairs loo (next to the hall so it probably came in that way, and I told him to leave it be. I have got better things to do than go around killing small creatures - unless they are wasps! I was stung on the lip by a wasp as a kid and I had to be taken to A&E because I went into shock. I hate the things.

I’m as afraid of spiders as they are of me. We have an understanding. They don’t invade my personal space and I won’t invade theirs.
We’ve had fewer since we’ve had the dog, because she eats them if she sees them moving

I've bought a couple bottles of peppermint and lavender essential oils. A few drops over the door thresholds and window sills and so far so good. I did this last year too and it worked well, apparently they don't like the strong smells, it keeps the house smelling nice too.

When I was a child we had a spider in our living room that used to come out every evening and sit beneath the TV. We called him Fred! Since then, I've never been afraid of spiders - thanks Mum and Dad

Apparently this is an English house spider - in Scotland ! They’re moving north as the weather changes. I’ve caught a few, take them outside and give them a severe talking to. I’ve read that they only like to be indoors so when I put them out, they might go to a neighbour’s house. Trouble is, my neighbours may do the same so I might be finding the same one coming back! It’s funny how they just seem to appear in the middle of the lounge floor but I have a few of these spray lids dotted about the house to catch whatever might appear wherever. 🕷️🕷️

I’ve spent a few hours attempting to begin sorting out mr i’s man shed. I’ve tried several times and failed. Today I met several spiders but luckily they scurried off.

The good news - I found hedgehog poo by my hostas, this confirms I have a garden hedgehog, this is why a) my big daft young lab barks at night and B) why the hostas and big green leaf plants aren’t being shredded by slugs

My daughter yelled from the front room there is a big spider on the ceiling, then ran upstairs to escape. I checked to see if she was exaggerating, no she wasn’t. I yelled for hubby to rescue us from the ‘man eating tarantula’.

I don't mind small spiders but when it's a baby one I always wonder where its mum is hiding!

You can buy ultrasonic devices which repel spiders - they leave because it's uncomfortable for them. You need 2-3 for a 3 bed house. We haven't had any huge ones since we installed them.

My late husband used to be able to remove them for me as I am really scared of them, I can't remember why but I've been scared of them for as long as I can remember. I bought this spider catcher thats made of fine bristles and hopefully if its not too high for me I might be able to use it. At the moment I have sprayed all my windows, doors and any external pipes or wire entries with the mint spray and my cat often catches them for me.

I had the biggest spider I have ever seen, complete with hairy legs, in my kitchen recently. I can’t harm them, so I got the usual jar to catch it in and the and card to cover the jar to take it outside, but the spiders spread was wider than the jar, so I went to hunt for something bigger and when I got back it had disappeared!!!!

My bad boy found in the bath, god knows what sort it is , but trying to get him out I dropped him hence him curled up. I soon got rid tho outside

Funny enough last night, there was a huge spider in my sink which I managed to get out and put outside.
Then when I went to bed, there was not quite such a huge one on my ceiling and I couldn’t reach it so where is now I don’t know.
I do have one of those electronic spider, deterrent things and spray my curtains and bedding occasionally with a spray of pepper mint and water.. If I haven’t got the mint I will use citronella..

I had one of those and it worked very well. Then my grandson came round and he complained of a pain in his head whenever he sat on a certain chair, but the pain got less when he moved elsewhere in the lounge. As soon as I unplugged the spider thingy, the pain went completely. They are supposed to be harmless to people and pets but after that I wasn't sure so never used it again. I do use conkers but they become play things for the cat.

Some years ago...... and I wonder if anyone else read the article..... one of the newspapers quoted from the scientific press that housholds where spiders were not discouraged had fewer members suffering from URT infections The paper quoted suggested that bacteria and viruses got caught on the web
