I found myself with this same dilemma today, after buying two bedding sets from Dunelm in Newport, Isle of Wight.
Upon opening one of the sets, the quality of the material was very poor, and so we decided to try and return both sets immediately. Literally within 20 minutes from initial purchase.
When we arrived at the store, we spoke to the store greeter and asked him if there was anything we could do. He didn't seem to think that it would be a problem to get a refund, so he called the store manager to relay our dissatisfaction.
She asked him whether we had seen the sticker on the back of the packaging, and we confirmed that we had. But she agreed to a full replacement or refund without any hesitation. There really was no drama whatsover.
So, I think it's worth trying to get a refund or replacement if this happens to you. Obviously other store managers may not be so obliging. However, we had no problem getting a refund.
