Duvet Covers, which do you prefer buttons or poppers?

Like Tanith and Aggie, I don't bother that much about closing them. Who cares? I do iron them though.

Zips are even easier - has anyone had these and do they stand up well to the washing.

Yes I love mine with zips. Mostly had Dorma with these. They wash and dry well as long as you turn them inside out. It’s great that other washing doesn’t get caught inside.

My 4.5 duvet washes and dries very quickly so I just use it without a cover and wash it regularly. Lazy but it works for me!

I don’t have a cover anymore - too lazy! I bought a washable duvet from M&S which has a pretty pattern on it. I use a top sheet and wear a nightie so don’t ever touch the duvet when sleeping which means I don’t need to wash it very often.

Actually I struggle with arthritis so find changing the bed very difficult, anything I can do to reduce the effort really helps.

Poppers are much better than buttons but I haven't seen any with poppers for a long time. Buttons are very difficult to undo and do up. Ikea sell duvet covers with zips (as well as pillow cases) but they often get stuck so poppers are better.

grumppa folds don't stay in! DD2 has some and duvet finds it's way out always! Buttons or poppers don't have a preference as long as they keep the b....r in!

Do prefer poppers, and with decent quality duvets have never had any problems with any of htese wearing out. Never iron bedding, no need at all, but do use tumble dryer for them. Hated those old-fashiooned ties.
Always washed, folded and stored inside out, so tht it is easier to put back on.
I also use a flat sheet between me and the duvet - that gets changed weekly and the duvet cover every three or four weeks - have these covers totally for decoration.

Poppers when I'm taking the cover off, buttons when I'm putting it back on!

I didn't know they made them with zips. I like poppers as my arthritic hands find buttons difficult. I hate changing duvet covers whatever kind of fastenings they have.

When I was working I used to give mine to a lady to iron them because she had a huge mangle. However the heat of the mangle ruined the silly plastic poppers.

I prefer buttons. My mother, who did not have arthritis, struggled to do the poppers up in her old age. They were so small and fiddly.

I have some duvet covers with zips but they are very cheap and half of the zips don't close properly. Maybe I'll replace them some day, but zips of that length are expensive.

I prefer poppers and do wish they would put on the packaging whether they are buttons or poppers….

Poppers. buttons are a real fiddle, especially when the buttonholes are a tight fit.

I've tumble dried my duvet covers for years and years; it's never affected the poppers.

What is this 'ironing' that people speak of?

Snap! Where did you get them from? I got my patterned ones from M&S.

Next time I buy duvet covers I shall buy the envelope style ones. You can buy clips for the corners to keep the duvet in place inside the cover. I haven't needed them with the button up covers that I currently own.

Zips for me. Accidentally found the one I'd bought from Ikea because I liked the pattern and the price was zipped, and intend to replace all ASAP. Even the pillowcases were zipped, and they don't dig in, as I'd feared they might.

i was a duvet cover changer 'par excellence' for several years.
24 duvets to be put on and plumped up in record time every saturday often in hot tempertures. sanderson, dorma, laura ashley, m and s etc we had them all. i also washed and ironed them all myself.

it isn't the tumble drier which wrecks the plastic poppers it is the heat of the iron. when they got too bad i replaced them with strips of velcro. i had a couple of children's sets with pretty tape bows. i used pegs in the corners to keep the duvet in place inside the covers, then furiously shake it down. buttons looked smart but they were definitley more fiddly.

I don't understand why more don't have zips? Surely that is a lot easier than either buttons or poppers?

I don't mind buttons or poppers - Mr R does the duvet cover after I've changed the bottom sheet and pillowcases!

Yes. M and S duvets. I bought one of these thin patterend ones and a thicker plain white one.

Langlei, please let me know ,if you can, the answer to this question; do ALL M and S duvets have silky covers so they can be used coverless? I mean, to use a duvet coverless I need close woven nylon or polycotton outer so dog hairs and bits of grass etc don't get trapped inside the weave.

The two M and S coverless duvets I have are like that----very close woven quite robust material- and I have been wondering if they are all that same quality.

Teacheranne, I got my patterned washable duvet from M and S. Nobody else seems to sell them or not nice ones anyway. I got the dove grey with tiny flecks. I'd have got the pale pink with tiny flecks but they were sold out.
So far I need only one of these as they dry so quickly.
