Oven cleaners professional or DIY?

My oven was always a shameful cruddy mess until I bought a new one 3 years ago. I clean it every week without fail, which takes perhaps 10 minutes. I use a wire scrubber, and spray bleach.

It looks like new.

I would like to add that it is used most days.

Yep, I’ve used this and it’s great. I invested in a pyrolitic oven when we moved house and it’s wonderful, but you have to take the racks and shelves out before you do a cleaning cycle - it doesn’t really clean the glass in the door either. I’ve found a product on Lakeland. - the name of it escapes me but it comes in a twin pack with large plastic bags into which you pour the stuff and put the racks and trays in, swish them round for a couple of hours and then cleaning off the gunk is a doddle. They come up like new. The same stuff, painted on the glass in the door brings baked on marks off in a few minutes - just leave the door open and flat so it doesn’t run off.

Remember now, it’s called Oven Mate. I switched to it when I couldn’t lay my hands on the Pink Stuff. I think Stardrops are the makers of the Pink Stuff and I found it again in Home and Bargain,

Pammie1 I agree Oven Mate is brilliant for chrome and stainless steeel shelves. Don’t spill drips of it on your wooden kitchen floor, ruining it like I did with mine though! It’s a job best done outside well away from delicate surfaces of any kind as it’s very caustic.

I use the Pink Stuff in bathrooms but have never thought of using it on ovens. Thank you.

I’ve been meaning to get the professional oven cleaner for weeks - must give him a call. Last done 2 years ago - £25 - worth every penny - comes out like new!!!

My ovens have self cleaning sides, and special mats I bought from Lakeland on the bottom, which I wash every couple of months. I also cover nearly everything I put in the oven or put on baking trays if they might spill over.

I never need to clean the oven and haven't done so for decades.

I thought it was the law to use Ovennu - it helps keep the man in business.

Actually, I use pink stuff on the top between visits.

I have never even heard of it.

Professional cleaners are worth every penny.
I do clean as I go, but when the oven cleaners finished, it’s like new.
It takes a whole morning, and I don’t think I could bear to spend a whole morning cleaning the range.

On our local Facebook page, someone warned against using the Pink Stuff on the glass oven door as it could make the glass shatter when hot, something to do with the ingredients.

Am not saying if this is correct or not, but that was what it said, a few people agreed.

I wipe out my oven every single time I use it!
I sprinkle Bicarbonate of Soda lightly on the floor of the cavity & leave it there. It mops up drips & best of all, wipes out clean every time.
My oven is never "cruddy" & the glass sparkles.

CrazyH £25?. I’ve just paid over £100.

I soak my oven shelves in washing soda (£1-10 a bag) and hot water. The gunk cleans off easily then. Expensive fancy products not needed!

Mind you, the rest of the oven could do with a clean and I can't put that in to soak.

I used professional cleaners 2 women. 45 mins £40. Will have them back in 6 months or so.

Sago - that was 2 years ago - I only have a single oven - I have just texted him to see how inflation has affected the price. Just spoke to neighbour, who had him recently and he charged £40 for her double oven...

I always put the shelves in the dishwasher.

I’m with WWMK2- it’s a wipe after each use - 20 seconds flat!

I felt abit sorry for him laid on the floor cleaning my mucky oven, so I sat on the floor too and talked to him, he said the worst oven he cleaned was where he asked the homeowner where the oven was and he answered that he would have to see the maid!

I don't rate pink stuff at all, didn't make any difference to my oven door but white vinegar with baking soda did,

same here £120, but he said my make is particularly tricky, he probably says that to everyone.
But I don’t care, worth every penny!

Sara1954 I have a Lacanche that is easy enough to clean but the company I use charges by size.
It was worth every penny and such a treat.
I hate doing it.

Yes, I have a Lacanche, but I have an induction hob, which obviously needs no special cleaning.
But as I said, I don’t care, I don’t want to spend half a day cleaning the cooker.
