panasonic microwave :cant work it!

I have the 'combi' too - I have had 2 glass plates go bang, one just last week, as I forget to use the metal plate when cooking on convection - duh! You probably need to use that to grill things too or the plate will become too hot?

Patience is needed, they are fiddly. I find if you move it around slowly just over the triangle it will slot in. I’ve had 30 years to get used to mine and yes it stills works perfectly.

I've had my small Panasonic for about 15 years and always have trouble fitting the plate in after I've washed it. Usually I just fiddle around with it (that's a technical term) until it fits!

Just a point about these ovens. The normal 12 hole bun tins will not quite fit into these ovens. You can use them, but will need to turn off the turntable, and then remember to turn that tin around as otherwise one side will burn whilst other side is undercooked. I purchased a couple of 6 hole bun tins and use these for making fairy cakes, etc. etc.

When using it as an oven, you should really use the low stand to lift up the cooking food from the turntable. the higher stand is really just for using the grill.

Marydoll ), I too was nervous at first but the glass doesn't crack. I think you're meant to put the metal plate on top before placing the grill rack on top. It's all in the instructions. And make sure the air can circulate around it. When I'm using it as an oven, I pull it out from the wall You'll soon feel more confident with it.

I love my combi microwave. When I moved into my flat I took the momentous decision not to have a normal large oven - and purchased one of these instead. Use it all the time for just about everything. Have made, bread, cakes, pies, quiche, scones, etc. very happily and well. Have found it is even quicker thank most large fan ovens.

The Microwave and the Convection parts are brilliant, = the only part I am not happy with is the grill. This does work, but is very slow - so do have a separate small George Foreman grill for such things as chops, etc.

Obviously, these combi/microwaves are not really suitable for a family - but for me living by myself they are wonderful, take nowhere as much room in my kitchen and just plug into a normal leccie socket.

*Hetty*, this going to sound like a daft question. When using the grill part, what kind of dish do you use and why doesn't the glass turntable crack?
I'm afraid to use the grill part.

With my last one (can't remember the make, sorry), I had another metal plate and a rack on legs to use when grilling.

The glass plate should fit if you move it round a bit, suey, you have to get it exactly in the right place then it clicks in.

Why did you buy one Daisymae if you don't want to use it?

Have a look on YouTube there's bound to be a how to video. I followed one on how to open a Bosch tumble dryer when the door was broken. The answer is a screwdriver and duster! I have a Neff combi oven and I can honestly say I've never actually used it.

If you say you can't do something. ..you won't be able to. Tell yourself you can.

Its fiddly but you will get used to it. We have a Panasonic combi. Its brilliant.

It took me about a year to realise that, in convection mode, there are different temperatures - depending on how many times you press 'convection' - doh.

Just a question which might be a bit daft but do you have the circular plastic bit (on wheels) in the base.... before you try to fit the glass plate?
That will catch the plate if you place it unevenly. Then just place the plate centrally and use one finger in the middle to spin the plate gently, it should drop into place.

Marydoll, mine has a metal grill rack, on legs. If I'm just using the grill, I tend to use a round metal 'rice plate'.

If I'm microwaving first (no metal allowed) then I use a Pyrex- type glass shallow dish. I should think that the turntable is a type of Pyrex too.

When you do manage to get it in place, leave it there! Put anything for cooking on another microwave safe plate on top of that so that you can lift it out easily. Then you won't have the problem of getting the glass turntable back in!

Mine's a Panasonic combi - and yes, it's fiddly.

The heavy glass turntable has three 'blobs' of protruding glass on the underside. The base holder has one 'fin' coming out from the centre - which has to lodge between two 'blobs' to turn it.

I tend to just put the turntable in, centre it, then turn it round until it clicks into place!

They plate usually just sit on 3 raised pieces of glass is yours different?

If you look at the underneath of the glass turntable, it has a shaped bit right in the middle. That fits over the shaped bit in the middle of the micrtowave floor. When they are lined up, they fit like magic.

Of course, you can't see the underneath when you have the turntable right way up, which doesn't help!
I put mine in at approximately the right angle, then turn it round until it clanks into position. Not elegant, but it works. You do get better at guessing right after doing it for a few days.

They are the very devil to get in place - I usually try to line up the small triangles on the bottom of the plate with the indents on the turntable then just gently rock it until it falls in. Good luck!
