Shandy - it's good news that you have a completion date and plenty of time to prepare for the move.

Shandy such great news that you now know when this long story comes to a happy conclusion - and in plenty of time to benefit from the tax holiday. Pity about the fine - but at least no-one was hurt and no damage to vehicle.

At least you have good notice unlike so many of us who were told of Completion date just a few days prior to that actually taking place.

That's good news Shandy! A lot of your friends on this thread will be delighted for you and you will be in your new home in time for spring. Really interesting to see what comes up in a garden when you move house.

Thanks midgey, I've not had a speeding ticket for twenty years, just need to concentrate harder when I'm on that hill in future. No pedestrians at all there, it's just as you come from the 60 zone and I hadn't slowed enough.

Just heard from the vendor's estate agent, she now wants to have a week between exchange and completion rather than do it all on the one day to ensure her removal date is secure. Understandable. I've written to my solicitor to ask him to get in contact with her solicitor with the suggestion of March 4th.

Afternoon all, I've just heard from my solicitor and my completion date is 11 March.

I've phoned through to the removal company and he was out on a job, he's phoning me back after 5 pm.

I've also phoned the rental agency and they said if I give a month's notice on 7 February, which would take me to 6 March, the landlord might agree to only charge me for an additional week. As I've had pets here I need to get the carpets cleaned and don't think I'd have the energy to do that on removals day. I need to hear back from the removals company first to see if they can help me on the actual day.

I don't feel excited at all, it's a bit of an anti-climax, but
I needed some good news. I've just got a £100 speeding ticket and three points for doing 36 mph in a 30 mph zone, it's a steep hill approaching the village. I spoke to a dog walking friend and she was also given a ticket, with 63 others, last autumn, she was doing 35 mph.

Silence indeed! - my solicitor has a PhD in silence!

Shandy and Pittcity I can understand how frustrating it must be for you to not know when you will b able to complete your move.

We may have to wait a bit longer in some cases but at least we know when we have our offer accepted and the contract signed when it will all be completed and are able to plan accordingly.

Fingers crossed you will both have some positive answers from your legal people very soon.

I'd repair and carry on if it still works loopyloo - I remember buying a new seal for my electric oven, easy to fit. Not sure about the light, but probably just screw in? My fridge in the self catering used to stop working in cold weather too, luckily I didn't have guests in the winter.

I'm feeling very stressed waiting for my completion date, I've been phoning and emailing and hitting a brick wall of silence.

Absolutely, Franbern. I am looking at our electric oven. The seal is falling off and the light has gone and it's 11years old. Shall I buy a new one? Should I buy a Neff or another Zanussi or shall I just repair it and carry On?
Also our fridge freezer in the shed didn't work in the cold weather !!! Shall I buy a freezer that works at - 15 or just manage!

Must admit I would be continually worried if my 'fridge light does not go on. Only way I can be assured 'fridge is really working.

Fridge ;lights - do not even go there! My OH was a bit OCD and one holiday he spent much of the time trawling round shops to try and find the right light bulb for the fridge in our self-catering accommodation - I was not a happy bunny!

Life has changed since you lived there Shandy! Never go back it is not the place you left. Soon you will be settled in your lovely new bungalow and you will be able to make it into your home.

I thought it was odd there was'nt a light in the fridge, but the previous tenants left it and it seems quite old, I didn't really give it a second thought. I was on moneysavingexpert and a tenant asked if they were responsible for replacing the fridge light and everyone confirmed they were ... so I thought I'd investigate! Hidden behind the big knob you turn for temperature is a light - a dead bulb - after much fiddling I've managed to replace it. Can now see my cheese and yoghurt!.

Poor you Ellianne! I've just been out to the garage to check I'd bought my two stone 'faces' that used to be in the self catering area, I couldn't remember seeing them - I did.

It's really getting to me today that I haven't had my date confirmed. I'm off to the beach in a minute and I'm going to throw lots of stones in the sea! And give them names!

When we sold a property in France we said we would leave everything. What I didn't expect, in typical French style, was that I had to list every spoon, coathanger, mop and broom etc. It took me days!

Oh Luckygirl what an unhelpful solicitor. Surely if she has already put the charges down once for paperwork she won't charge you again for the same stuff?

We knocked next door and our neighbour witnessed our signatures in his doorway.

Keep going Luckygirl, I hope your printer has a copy function so you can take copies of it all. I had an enormous 'legal pack' to prepare for my sale at auction and there are reams of forms, I am sorry your solicitor isn't accessing them to save you doing them again. It doesn't need to be this hard, but the pandemic has thrown up difficulties - like getting documents signed. My friend's Mum has just died, I dread to think what she is going to face trying to arrange everything remotely.

I really regret leaving my stained glass/deco hanging/wall lights, but couldn't get an electrician to come in because of lockdown I'll be watching out for the skip when it comes

What I am finding so tedious is the reams of forms needed, and copies of various things - all of which my solicitor has from the previous failed sales but cannot be bothered to look up herself - just wings it all to me to do search for them and fill it all in.

I do feel very frustrated with my solicitor and truly think she is a very lazy person, with zilch communication skills. We only moved here 4 years ago and the solicitor (from the same firm, but now retired) was excellent - just got on with stuff and anything he sent us came with a full explanation of what was required of us.

The new-build I am moving to has everything - 2 ovens, microwave, fridge, freezer, washing machine etc. So I am leaving everything - or disposing of if anything is past its prime - desperately trying to persuade washing machine to last till I move - lots of towels on the floor required!

It is sad to read of all the trials of other gransnetters on the move - does t really need to be this hard|?

It is not essential that fittings are left nowadays as you can order online and have things delivered and fitted next day in most cases. We will have nothing else on our calendar when we move and so can spend time measuring, researching and ordering. Luckily we will be in the town centre and so can use the 4g until our WiFi is connected.
