Getting biro stains out of clothes

I've just thrown out some of my grandsons school shirts because they had ink stains which I couldn't get out.

In the past I've used alcohol for ink and grass stains. Any type of alcohol works but I still remember my father's reaction when he encountered my mum cleaning the green stains on my tennis dress with his whisky.

Yes indeed Witzend I picked that little gem up many years ago from an upholstery cleaner I got in to deal with biro marks on my cream sofa after my little granddaughter then aged 3 decided to draw a delightful picture on the back of one .

It works a treat on most fabrics.
