Yes, a mat around the loo is definitely a necessity in your case annsixty. Any of us might have to have a rethink if our circumstances change.

I am another who won't have pedestal mats around the loo.

I too like IKEA mats. They do soft mats which are lightweight and easy to wash and dry. Made the mistake of buying black ones for our en-suite. I have no idea where all the bits of white fluff and specs which end up on them come from though!??? Going to buy a different colour when we are next near an IKEA.

I wish I could have a mat in front of my sink in the downstairs loo as the floor is polished tiles and always covered in drip marks from washing hands even though the towel ring is right next to the sink. The door opens in though so no room for a mat. I've given up with toilet mats too in the bathroom as my cat thinks they're her own personal toilet accessory - even though she has 2 trays right next to them! She's particularly fond of one of them - they say it's the latex backing which attracts them - I just think it's sheer naughtiness

I have a bath mat and (sink) pedestal mat which I bought from Argos about 8 years ago for under £5. I wash them at least weekly and they are still going strong. As for the bathroom floor I don't think I have ever washed it. Before everyone faints in horror it is regularly flooded by both DS and DGC in the shower or bath so I guess my constant mopping up keeps it clean.

I agree with Annsixty that mats used sensibly are very helpful. I removed the mats for safety reasons after DH ended up in a wheelchair and then progressed through crutches to walkingsticks and I am hoping that it won't be too much longer until I can put them back. I find the mats protect all those little crevices from much unpleasantness which is hard to eradicate when you can't use them! I don't mind washing the mats very frequently as I have a machine.

I can't seem to find a pedestal mat that fits the shape of my loo and most of them don't have rubber on the back so the wander round the bathroom.

If you had an H who is 81 and has Alzheimer's, I can assure you mats around the loo , changed everyday and sometimes more, are essential if you don't want you or visitors to paddle. Just another reality check for you.

Just for everyone's attention, my husband does not splash, I wash my mats every other day. My floor is also mopped with bleach every other day.
All I was asking for is where I can get new ones from. Maybe I am old fashioned but don't worry I do stop at having a toilet seat cover.

I agree with you Phoenix, I don't like any kind of mats around toilets - I think they're unhygienic. To be honest, I didn't think people bought them these days. We have vinyl flooring, which is easily cleaned. The bath mat, which is really more like an extra thick towel, is purely for stepping out of the shower and is kept on the towel rail when not in use (and washed frequently I might add!)

Oh and while we're on the subject, anyone for a toilet seat cover?

I have a varnished wooden floor in the bathroom and didn't put the pedestal mat back after I washed it last time. I now think [may be imagining it] that the wood around the loo is a bit smelly so I need to have a rethink. I have a cork mat next to the bath.

We have recently moved and now have wet rooms. I find duck boards really good as bathmats get soggy with the splashes. John Lewis and quite expensive but the don’t need to be washed and will see us out!!

I suppose a mat around the basin might be ok, (Mr P does seem to make a fair bit of mess having what he refers to as his "splosh" every morning,) but we just have one mat in the bathroom, definitely wouldn't want one round the toilet/loo/lavatory delete according to class/preference/personal taste!

I agree with phoenix it is many years since I had mats at the whb and loo. My bathroom floor is tiled- I only have a mat for stepping out of the shower. It is so easy to wash the floor.

I only have a mat for stepping out of the shower too, same colour as whichever colour towels we're using. I stopped using toilet mats and prefer a bare floor easier to keep hygienic, my very late X husband had a terrible aim Yuk!

I buy towelling bath mats that match the bath towels, just throw them in the washer and dryer.

Welshwife me too! I also hate the heavy ones and bought really nice ones from Ikea. Also the best towels we've ever had - I think they were about £5 each.

Twiceasnice is ahead of me but I was going to suggest John Lewis who offer a decent range from £10 upwards and you can buy online if there isn't a branch nearby.
When we moved house last year, my little stash of JL bath mats came with us. I bought them in 1985 for £9.99 each and felt guilty at the time about the expense. I wish everything offered such good value! They're still bouncing back from constant wash and wear and are a delight to snuggle your naked toes in as you step out of the bath.

I don't like them at all Phoenix, toilet mats that is. I'm fanatic about washing my bathroom floor and just have a bath mat.

I bought lovely ones from John Lewis. Not expensive, wash well and dry quickly in the machine and dryer. Not sure if they have pink as a colour though. I bought white and think they have silver grey, mocha, turquoise and black

Bought mine in Aldi. Less than a tenner each if I remember rightly.
They wash lovely and dry quickly.

I also buy mine at Dunelm. Reasonable quality, the cotton ones are very hard wearing and cheap enough to replace when needed.
