Folding clothes like KonMari

Life is too short to obsess about this sort of thing.

Agree - is someone you know obsessing?

I put newly washed knickers at the bottom of the pile in the drawer so they all get even wear, same with towels in the airing cupboard. I was going to repeat with other items but it is too much of a faff.

I have a method with knickers, I roll them like socks, have 2 lines of them in the drawer and just put clean ones at the back of the line, everyday ones on the right side and 'posh/matching'ones on the left. so eventually they all get a turn.

I just put them in piles according to colour.

t shirts and tops are on hangers unless they are the ones I wear around the house and garden, which are on a shelf in the wardrobe.

Until I saw this thread I had no idea who or what KonMari is or was

I have been doing some of this for a while now and still liking it. Started with vests/pants, moved on to a drawer of t-shirts and also loads of scarves. I love that they look so neat and I can see them all so clearly, but have to remember which line has long or sleeves or no sleeves!
But I never got around to throwing away all the stuff I rarely wear!

I bought a set of Ikea drawer dividers (the little nylon boxes with zips at the bottom) for my scarf drawer. Now I have my scarves sorted into similar type, i.e. winter, summer, small, large etc, and I roll them so that they are easily visible. Before, they were folded in piles, and the piles inevitably got messy when I was rooting around looking for the one I wanted. Now the drawer is always tidy and it takes very little effort to keep it that way. I couldn't be bothered doing it with all my clothes, though. If everything was reduced to a neat little stand-up parcel how on earth would you know what it was without unfolding? A long sleeved T? A short sleeved T? A nightie? A pair of shorts? A pair of leggings? It would drive me nuts!

Every now and then I have a sort out of my clothes brought about by not being able to find something which niggles at my brain until I get really annoyed with myself.

I'll go upstairs with a vengeance, a cup of tea and a bag for charity and start with the drawers.

I arrange all the underwear into colour order
Next I pair up all the pyjamas and fold and put away
Then I start on T shirts and put them into colour order
Followed on by the wardrobe.

I arrange tops and shirt in colour order
Skirts have their own section and so do trousers
Coats
Jackets
Dresses. all following a theme of colour which for me is mainly

Black grey brown pink and then white with a few other random items in green blue and red.

The last time I did this I found a Karen Millen dress which I have never worn (hoping to lose some eight) had fallen down the back of the wardrobe and one of my cats had shit on it used it as a toilet.

I did not find the jacket that had gone missing, did not drink my tea, did not put one single item in the charity bag and felt most upset.

However the knickers all look good

I read enough about this system to know it wasn't anything I could subscribe to...life is too damn short for giving things a hug and seeing if they make you feel happy! My knickers go in the knicker drawer, clean at the back, just folded in half. T-shirts are folded and drawed, long sleeved on right, short on left. Almost everything else is hung up. When I can't close a drawer or I've run out of hangers, Ihave a clear out. Simples!

I started following her ideas last year. Much has changed now but I still fold/roll knickers and fitted sheet, towels too. It is good to be able to select the correct knickers from the drawer without my usual jumble.

I have too many pairs of pants and socks. If I'm given new ones I usually put them away for a bit but one day if I feel a bit low I put a new item on to cheer me up. Still too many and drawers are too full!

I have abandoned the folding thing as it took me too long to put everything away, but hubby likes his t.shirts like that now, I shove them in his drawer and he Konmari's them, bless him....but then he's got sod all to do!

I hang most of clothes up apart from pjs and undies pjs I fold undies I just shove in drawer. No messing about colour coding stuff or putting in neat little piles. I'm only person that goes in my knickers draw so it doesn't really matter.

Lesley1, I am currently culling my clothes (ebay) and will soon be able to hang all my clothes up in the wardrobe (I do find that t.shirts get hanger marks (you know it stretches the shoulder) and you end up with shoulder lumps). I will also shove undies in the drawer and have just nightwear folded, can't wait - it should be soon!
