Thanks Stansgran now I realise what you meant.. I do have a similar blanket but only put it on for a few minutes to warm the sheets and then when i get in I switch off..
Yes Chelseab my DH puts his blanket on when he goes to bed but if he's cold in the night he tends to believe I am his hot water bottle. I think charger on standby is for those people who leave the charger plugged in and switched on without an iPod iPad attached. They feel warn and are using electricity unless switched off at the wall.
I don't think the article is very accurate as it says ipad charger on standby. This does not happen, you are either charging or it is off - unlike some other chargers. makes you wonder how much research they have done!
I'm the opposite, I get very hot at night and on occasions have an electric fan on. Apart from husband moaning about gale force winds in the bedroom, I have had the comment "how much is that fan costing me?" I have no idea, sometimes you can't put a price on well being
Thank you Elegran I do feel the cold and I have a timed option of nine hours on a very low level(there are 6 levels) neither of us likes heated bedroom but I get cramp in cold sheets so I tend to put the blanket on a little before bedtime and have the nine hour option . The blanket switches itself off when the body ( me) is warming up to the required temperature,or that is how I understand it. DH always assumes I am wasting electricity but at those prices I think I'm excused profligacy
This source [http://www.savethestudent.org/accommodation/how-much-does-energy-cost-an-hour.html How much does energy cost per hour?]] says £19.32 for the TV
Which Review of electric blankets says "Using the most energy-efficient blanket in our test for two hours a day, every day for half a year at its maximum setting would cost just £2.19. The least efficient blanket would cost almost three times as much to run for that amount of time, but is still very cheap at £5.93." You can multiply that up to get the all-night cost - bearing in mind that it will not use as much power once it has heated up from cold and is just maintaining the temperature.
Tehe Telegraph personal finance page The devices quietly running up your energy bills has a list of how much it costs to leave various things on standby - Television (Plasma) is £4.87 If they are actually running it is more than that.
I have a problem with DH who believes that I am being profligate with electricity if I leave my new electric blanket on ( it's dual control intelliheat) I get cross because he turns the tv onto rolling news and never turns it off. I'm not going to argue with him but would like to know for my own satisfaction and carry on leaving the blanket on sites which I google are often US and money supermarket has old comments.
