Chosing colour for hall, stairs and landing

Loads of ideas from GNetters on a similar post by myself a couple of days ago. have a peek.

A number of friends have moved/redecorated lately and they have (interestingly, as they don't know each other) chosen a lovely pale grey for the hall, stairs and landing with brilliant white paintwork. It looks stunning in all 3 houses.

I, however, will be changing my hall, stairs and landing décor shortly and am in a quandary like you, Petallus, my paintwork is varnished wood - sounds foul but is quite nice. Lots of wooden doors so grey would not suit really - bored with cream, so will await replies to your OP with interest! Good luck

I have the same problem for a bedroom. Painter's coming to tomorrow - desperation setting in [help] I am usually so definite on what I want but just can't make up my mind.
If it helps Petallus my hall/stairs/landing are a soft grey (F&B Paviilion grey'ish) and the carpet is a darker grey. Because it's a long hall and wide, high stairs with a big half landing with a huge 10' arched window, I decided to paper one wall with grey/white silver birch trees. I love it!
Is the area well lit? If not, I wouldn't go for sludge or anything too dark. How about something like Theresa's Green?

I'm a fan of the greys available now and will probably use it on our h/s/l later this year... could be cold or dark but there are lots of ways to add some light or colour. Good luck!

Oh dear so difficult to choose for other people, I noticed that mollie likes grey and after watching the interior design thing on the BBC I ended up disliking it - it really is so subjective isn't it? I do like F&B colours though.

Gally's description of the wallpaper with silver and grey birch trees sounds nice, the silver would add a bit of shimmer and light.The walls don't have to be grey [I am not a fan of grey, even if it is fashionable]they could be duck egg blue or a grey green, sage with white paintwork. A bit Swedish looking.All the rage at the moment!

Any decisions yet Petallus?
I decided to go white and slightly off white for the walls. All looks a bit 'heavenly' but will put plenty of colour in the room - bed linen, curtains and pictures. Can't believe I did that but a change is as good as a rest, as my old Dad would have said!

The decorator arrives on Monday but I should let him know colour today or tomorrow so he can go out and buy it before then.

This week has been full on with half term babysitting, DH's 75th birthday celebrations, visit of an old friend who we haven't seen for years and so on but I still managed to find time to consult the Farrow and Ball chart and make decisions and then change them a few times every day.

I love sludgy blues/greens but we have had something like that for the last ten years so would like a change.

I wonder if I make a resolution to have texted the decorator by this evening, I'd be able to do it.

DH says he is 'letting' me make the decision as though he thinks he is doing me a favour!

Gally I like your colour scheme. 'Heavenly' sounds good for a bedroom!

Well, that's it. I have told decorator Cornforth White which is a kind of insipid grey.

Incidentally, I'm not paying out for the real Farrow and Ball. Decorator knows someone who mixes to the same colour for half the price.
