Mice.

If you catch one in a humane trap you have to let them out a long, long way away or they will make their way back in again - been there and done that!!! I work in an ironmongers and we have sold loads of traps this year. Good luck.

Just an up-date: since my last message, no more mice! So here's hoping! Only downside - rats in the compost - can't win!

Just dozing off over my book last night, when I saw one run across the bedroom floor! Chased it around the bedroom for a bit, then into the study, flung a trap in and stuck towels under the gap at the bottom of the door. No mouse in trap this morning so OH is in there trying to get it. Kept awake most of the night by its friends dancing in the attic and the cupboard behind my head...
I know I am pathetic, but I do hate them....

It's getting chilly at night so, as usual, a mouse <single? not pregnant? hopes desperately!> is coming in. Have got the mouse traps out and will charge with peanut butter tonight. Quite often it's a wood mouse I catch, which is sort of a shame, but this is my house, not theirs.

Hi there best way to get rid of mice and how to track them and where they came from. i used traps from screwfix. They caught all five mice in one go problem solved. Used crunchy tesco value peanut butter this is best for the smell. Mice loved it so did i. Also sprinkle baby powder around and they will leave paw prints for you to see where they came from and it smells nice. This all worked for me. Tried old fashioned traps did no work. Mice must be clever. Could not outwit the all in one traps. To protect the wiring in my home bought riddex plug ins.

My cat brings mice in to play with but on the whole she normally finds them within 24 hours and has a free hot takeaway.

I had a mouse problem a few months ago and being too squeamish to touch a mouse trap, I bought one of those things that one plugs in and it did the trick. It would have been quite expensive but I bought it in a sale. It apparently covers the entire house and I have not seen a mouse since.

I test the noise level button occasionally and the noise would drive me crazy so if that is what the mice hear all of the time, I am not surprised that they have gone elswhere.

dahlia; just noted your reference to rats in the compost bin; this is my latest problem [not realising that I should have put mesh under the bin..but too late now]. Have you solved the problem or is it ongoing? The rat I did see was the size of a squirrel . Having discovered postfix I might concrete round the outside of the bins.

We have a plug in and it seems to have had no effect at all - this one I bought in France but friends with one they bought in UK does seem to have had an effect. Will look into the Screwfix trap too. I will look for a plug in one while I am here in UK too.

Bez, you need to buy one like the one that I descibed so that you can check if it is still working. I bought mine on line but if you want I can have a look at mine for the name of the maker.

It stated that the mice would not go immediately but mine packed and left very soon, leaving their droppings and fluffy bedding in the cupboard under the kitchen sink.
