Tolak Ointment

I haven't heard of this brand name but my husband was prescribed a cream by the Dermatology Consultant to use on a suspicious mark on his ear. It seemed to redden the skin which then crusts and scabs over, which is normal.
Looking at the description, it is similar to Tolak cream.

However, when he was given a second prescription he was unable to find the cream anywhere; pharmacists said it wasn't discontinued but 'out of stock'.

It says fluorouracil inhibits the growth of dodgy pre-cancerous cells in solar keratosis or similar. Topical side effects: Include severe redness, swelling, burning, stinging, and crusting at the application site as the abnormal cells break down, but the area heals completely a short while after the treatment stops.

Ask you doctor or pharmacist to reassure you if it sounds scary.

I used this just before Christmas for a pre- cancerous lesion.
It recall was a nasty experience, it was very painful and sore, almost like the skin was raw.
I had to stop using it after 3 weeks.
My GP said there is a milder alternative which takes longer, I wish I had asked for that.
If your H uses it be aware, mine was on my nose so it was very visible and I wouldn’t use it again.

My DH has seen a Dermatologist for several years now as he is susceptible to questionable areas of skin on his face and hands.
He has been prescribed different ointments and subjected to what could only be described as a face peel! Not very nice at all!
I don’t delve into the different names of the ointments, but one was too strong and did cause pain. He was told to stop using it immediately.
I’d suggest your DH uses his ointment as described with caution and gets back to the dermatologist if it causes any reactions.
