Just found out someone we have known very well for many years that they have got a good job with a disability charity and the job was advertised for people with a disability. The charity only employs people with disabilities. This person for a while now has been presenting themself on line and on “blogs” they are disabled. They apparently now “identify as disabled “ and this was enough to get the job because “the lived experience “ is what the charity want from employees. This person says they are neurodiverse and I’ve been told that some charities don’t ask for evidence or proof of the disability as this is against the individuals privacy. I understand why some people with disabilities should get special consideration when it comes to jobs but this doesn’t sit right with me. I think they’re taking a job off someone who is really affected by a disability. I know people can hides disability but I have known her pretty well and up to the last year or so I’ve seen nothing that indicates she’s disabled. In fact, she went to a private school and had lots of privileges. Her disability never seemed to stop her doing the things all her friends at private school and uni did Anyone else aware of this sort of stuff going on?
