AI Receptionists in GP surgery.

Ive, maybe foolishly, offered to be part of a working group at our practice regarding the introduction of AI. I’ll be the voice of the non technical. It’s both interesting and useful to read comments here. I’ll remember to mention postcodes!

And the phonetic alphabet please. Sorry I mean

We have one called Emma, she is very polite and patient. She has to be! She requests that you use the phonetic alphabet when spelling surnames. I got whiskey and hotel but got stuck after that🤦🏼‍♀️. DH helped me out!
I typed it out and it was put in our village magazine, hope it’s stuck on everyone’s fridge now.
She repeated my request, I eventually got there, and told me I would get a text.
I didn’t so went into the surgery to sort it out! I’d already tried on line but it was rather complicated and I ran out of letters allowed!

I've got one called Emma too. Seems like she's going to be a busy lady.

We have a large GP surgery, and many admin and reception staff.

I have now experienced Emma, and fell foul of the same problem my friend had. Emma couldn’t get her head round post codes!! She kept on insisting on the phonetic alphabet. She repeated back to me what I was supposed to have said and it was gobbldygook! I am very au fait with the phonetic alphabet - having served in the military you have to be! Anyway. Emma gave up on me and passed me to her equally dim colleague Sofia. I spent eighteen minutes on the phone going absolutely nowhere and I gave up. This was not even for a medical problem - just a routine enquiry about a prescription which a real receptionist would have dealt with in seconds. I fear for the future.

Our Surgery had one is called "Andi" the AI receptionist.
It worked, it filled in the request for my DH. I believe still a few glitches but on the right path.

Just as long as it’s just the receptionist that’s AI.

I haven’t experienced it yet but a friend was telling me on Wednesday that she has. All was well until she was asked for her postcode and even with the phonetic alphabet Emma failed to interpret it correctly. My friend gave up at that point.

Gotta love tech.
So much simpler than phoning up and speaking to a person.
It'll only cost me £14 round trip to go to my surgery if i have problems.

I had a text i didn't understand properly but it seemed to ve saying they have changed to AI.

I phoned them a couple of days later, and got no reply, so I'm assuming i had had experience of AI receptionists.
