Please share any thoughts on BPPV

I had it many years ago was sent to see a ENT surgeon who performed the Epley manoeuvre never had it since.

I’ve had bad vertigo several times in the past and assume it was BPPV. I always feel giddy if I turn round quickly or bob up and down so am careful to avoid these movements.

I have had it many times. Anti nausea medication and antihistamines help.

I’ve just looked it up, it sounds fascinating how they treat it but how do they know it’s caused by a build up of crystals?

Osteopath sorted my friend who has this condition. You can literally see her eyes dart from side to side whilst performing this manipulation.

My stepmother had this manoeuvre performed on her & it worked brilliantly. She was so relieved & said she'd do it again straight away if it ever came back. Good luck

You don't need a doctor/physio to do the Epley manoeuvre. Read the description and you can do it for yourself.

Am aware of that but first port of call if you feel dizzy and disoriented is your GP. It could be many other things. If they then offer to do the Epley manoeuvre most people agree. I let him do it and also came home with a leaflet telling me how to do it myself but it was not a success.

I have this and when I get into bed it feels like I am rolling out. Had it for several years. GP did Epley manoeuvre and it worked for quite a while. It came back. second attempt was no good at all. Referred to hospital. Epley manoeuvre wasn’t any good. Ears and hearing checked - no problems. Back to consultant who said another manoeuvre might make it worse! He then wrote to say I could refer myself again in the next 3 months. Waste of time really.

Not BPPV but have suffered Meniere's Disease for over 25 years. Epley Manoeuvre was suggested by GP before official diagnosis but that wouldn't have done anything for me. I'm finally trying to discontinue prescribed medication. Hope your symptoms improve soon, vertigo is horrible.

Had to look up this condition as had never heard of it. Sounds horrendous so wishing you the very best, hope you're soon recovered.

My OH had it really badly for about two weeks. We tried all the exercises that the doctor gave us to no avail. In the end we found one online that actually worked. It was a bit like the position that you would get in before you stand on your head!!!! Not easy but it worked.
It’s a bit like those maze games where you have to get the balls round a tray. You are trying to get the crystals back into their home!

Please find a specialist physio who knows exactly how to deal with this issue. She/He should perform the Epley manoeuvre before deciding the best way for with explicit exercises. The crystals in the inner ear may have shifted so need to realign plus the brain needs to know its left and right again. I am two years on from a really bad attack of vestibular migraines, vertigo, possible Mernieres and by doing lots of balance exercises, I am doing really well. It is worth the expense.

My husband has had BBPV a few times- and he has used the Epley manoeuvre, but last time our GP recommended vestibular exercises on YouTube-which he found really helped -it has not recurred . Sorry, can’t do the link but google home vestibular exercises on YouTube -the House Institute , Dr. Cho.

I have this condition and have used the Epley manoeuvre several times. It is not pleasant but it is short and it works. Really worth doing. If you haven't used it before you will find it easier with help from someone who understands it, but I have done it on my own or with my husband reminding me of the process - he has it written down. Many people are cured by one use of the Epley Manoeuvre but some, like me, can get a recurrence and need to do it again. It is benign ! not nice but Epley is on hand to help! good luck.

i had bppv quite badly a while ago but the epley manoevre didn't work the first time. then my gp took me off the statins i was taking because apparently they can cause dizziness! the bppv gradually disappeared over several months - i used to get the dizziness when i lay down at night and sat up in the morning.
but i'm not a stranger to vertigo having once had that so bad that i found myself pulling myself out of my bedroom - the floor turned itself into a ramp!! an injection of stematil stopped that. this was over 30 years ago.
but i've had small attacks of vertigo since so have a supply of stematil tablets in my medicine drawer just in case.
bppv while worrying at the time can be cured but sometimes it takes longer.

I had a really bad episode and DH called 111. They were brilliant and told me about the exercises. I haven't had another since.

It's horrible, I had an episode once and remembered on a TV GP show the lovely Irish Dr did the Epley manoeuvre on a patient, the chap recovered & was really grateful. I immediately looked it up and did it on myself and it worked! The spinning, nystagmus and nausea is awful & frightening. My dear partner has had 3 episodes now & was so relieved I knew how to ameliorate it & reset the crystals. It sounds bizarre really, crystals in the ear sounds kind of Woo Woo! Hope you manage to sort it out.

What a load of typos, they make you feel worse on the affected side, they do put the crystals back where they should be!!

Exercises were useless for me, I have has three Epleys and although the make you feel worse for a minute on the accected side, the do put the crystal back where they shoulf be and relieve it. Do push for that if you need to.

I suffered for 2 months with dizziness when laying down and getting up in the morning.

The spinning while lying is very distressing.
I wear hearing aids so my ears are not perfect and have been told its all connected.
What I have learnt to do is not look at my phone or i pad while in bed and touch wood its been 6 months dizziness free.
