Breast scare

I’m sorry you’re so distressed, Lucyloo. I am fortunate not to have had direct experience but there are quite a number of Gransnetters who do and I hope they’ll see your post.

Thinking of you. I too had a biopsy.
Only one but it was clear.
I was younger then and kept it all secret as my children were still young. I think the oldest was 18 and youngest 7.
I sought a second opinion and that's when the biopsy was done. It was 25 or more years ago but was a very long 8 weeks or so.
I was all clear.

I'd try some "guided mindfulness" meditation (on YouTube maybe).
Find a voice you like... some are not so very relaxing!

I am going through the same, but am surprised that I am not at all anxious! The success rate for breast cancer treatment is about 92-99% apparently, and ours have been caught early. I am due my surgery on Thursday, which is usually as a day patient, so it will soon be over. I wish I could help you to worry less!

shysal and Lucyloo I'm sorry to read what you're going through and understand perfectly as I have had breast cancer twice. The good news is that I've been clear for 26 years! and I'm sure the treatment is even better after all this time.

Once you know what you are up against, I think you will have a plan (or won't need one) and will feel much better.

Hoping this will bump up the thread for you, lucyloo. My consultant was honest with me before the biopsies so I knew what was coming at the next visit.

The waiting is the worst thing, I remember it well and three weeks seems a long time. I hope all goes well today.

Hope you have been reassured at your appointment today, Lucyloo. I dare say you have been given lots of reading matter!

Breast cancer stage 1 is the result. I'm actually very reassured as it is treatable. Op in 3 weeks followed by radiotherapy. Not sure I will be so positive at that stage but I need to get my big girl pants on and get on with it. Thank you ladies for your wishes. X

Thanks for getting back to us with what you could call good news. Stage 1 is very treatable, and you won't lose your hair with RT.
I won't be having chemo either, but my pessimistic self had bought some fancy coloured head wraps on Etsy just in case!

Lucyloo, shysal and everyone else going through the scary process . My lump, fortunately was only a cyst, but it was awful going from finding a bleeding breast lump (I was almost sure it was C ), the biopsy, waiting for the result and finally, the relief when the surgeon said it was just a cyst.
Having said that, there are such great treatments these days, C is not something to be too scared off. Good luck 🍀

Lucyloo12 I had exactly the same diagnosis as you 8 years ago following a routine mammogram and I was terrified! Even though I still remember the Consultant telling me it was very treatable it is still very scary. I too had a lumpectomy three weeks later and then 15 sessions of radiotherapy. I probably googled too much to begin with , but once my treatment plan was in place and I just listened to what was relevant to me (and kept away from scary internet sites!) everything seemed easier and I just looked to the future. Be kind to yourself and the radiotherapy can make you tired as you progress through it, but I found it totally painless and quick and I was able to work throughout the radiotherapy (my choice!). I am very lucky that life went totally back to normal for me afterwards and I wish you all the very best for your treatment too. Always happy to support if needed! 💕
