PANDAS Syndrome, please be aware.

i had heard of it as i often look at MN.
they are a mine of information.
as well as extreme swearing and personal insults.

I hadn't heard of it either. It explains something to me that I have often wondered about. So many thanks.

Too true. When I contacted my GP they made me feel I was making a fuss about nothing, although they did give me an appointment with a HCA- I told her my son and family had all been prescribed antibiotics even though their symptoms were fairly mild but she didn’t comment on this. 😖

Thank you for this - I notice that this condition is related to Strep A (strep throat).
I find this interesting as my son DIL and their two children recently tested positive for Strep A and were all prescribed a 10 day course of antibiotics. As I look after the children one day a week my DIL advised me to look out for the symptoms and to contact my GP if I got any of them.
Sure enough a few days later I went down with a bad throat and temperature. However when I spoke a health assistant at my GP surgery she told me they don’t test for Strep throat at this surgery and there was no need for antibiotics.
I find it strange that GPs in different authorities treat an illness in completely different ways.

I have never heard of this syndrome. While reading the symptoms I wondered about the potential for misdiagnosis of other conditions like ADHD or Tic Disorder etc when a child has this syndrome and nobody realises.

If all that is needed to cure it is a course of antibiotics, it's quite worrying!

Thank you for posting. A young man very close to me has been suffering Pans Pandas since he was 6yrs old. He was prone to Strep Throat. His parents got little to no help from the NHS. His mental health was severely affected. He is now a young adult and doing much better. This has been thanks to various private therapies over several years. It is indeed important to raise awareness.

Every day is a school day on GN and I’ve been very thankful for that on many occasions. 😃
