When I was a teenager : I yawned and there was a loud cracking sound - pain ensued and didn't go away .
A consultant oral surgeon diagnosed temporal mandibular
dysfunction and prescribed pain killers .
The pain become far less , but it persisted .
Bruxism was suspected , but proved not to be the cause .
I have noticed that when I feel tense I clench my teeth .
It is very common and not something to worry about , but if you've had no sympathy from your GP then , perhaps your local dental hospital can help .
Good luck with this unpleasant problem .
