Tinnitus and Dementia

Do you feel unsafe Farview I think you need to talk to a professional about this It definitely needs recording
Does he have a social worker ? If so ask for a visit if not go to your GP Do you have children to help you through this ?
It really can drive people mad but you must be kept safe too

My mother had dementia as well as had tinnitus and she couldn’t cope with tinnitus it at all.
I also have meunières with tinnitus which is part of this and though I am mostly aware of it can hear I have not allowed it to interfere with my life.
I am sorry about your husband it must be so difficult but suggest you seek advice from doctor. Talk to friends and family. You need to keep yourself safe.

In dementia the belief that someone is trying to harm them can be a symptom of dementia and that belief is as much of a problem as the tinnitus. Even if the tinnitus disappeared they would still believe someone wanted to harm them (in my mother's case it was the neighbours poisoning her water supply. If l suggested bottled water she was convinced they would interfere with her electricity supply). It is entirely irrational.
You need to discuss this with husband's doctor or whoever else deals with his condition. If you feel threatened then you must call the police.

Please speak with your GP . I have had many years of experience with the Alzheimer's Society and seen the devastating effects. You must be safe , that is paramount!
My DH has just been diognosed, early stage but symptoms obvious to me. I will take a day at a time - so far so good! but I am not holding my breath and know full well what the future probably holds for us. 💐

I'd suggest you take your husband for a hearing test. My tinnitus has been much improved since I had my hearing aids last October.
I've written about this on another post, I first went for a hearing test as there is a link with loss of hearing and dementia.

We use our local branch of Scrivens. My treatment has been free under the NHS, they just need you to tell them your NHS number.

I took my Dad for a hearing test last week, he has vascular dementia so I wasn't sure how he'd cope with the test.
I told the receptionist beforehand and the audiologist was happy for me to go in with Dad.

I hope you can get some help for your husband. Tinnitus can be bad enough to cope with when you understand what is going on, which your husband plainly doesn't.
