Can I have dentures when I am allergic to metal?

You are my case study. At 76 I am told I have advance gum disease. I had wisdom tooth out but had to pay £150 to dentist Periodentist as a survey to allow my nhs (she rarely does nhs work now) to extract. Now she says my crown needs to come out. It goes only. Only alternative she has talked about are implants. Receptionist says they cost £3k ea. decision made. I’m keeping what I have. Fingers crossed. How can you put implants into gums with advanced gum disease. I am referred to as the patient who cleans their teeth well

Sounds like you should have been referred to hospital for those extractions. Poor you. I was referred for a back tooth with twisted root which had sheared off below gumline. Hope you get sorted.

I’ll need a top partial with 2 molars on the left side and a bottom that has 2 molars and a premolar on each side. That’s a whole lot of plastic to fit in!!

My small denture is acrylic and perfectly comfortable. If anyone asks if I still have my own teeth, I reply that yes, they're all my own; I've paid for them!

It sounds like acrylic ones are going to be my best bet if I can get partials without hooks on, or flexible if teeth can be added to it.
If only I could win the lottery, I'd pull the lot out and have implant retained dentures. At this rate I'll have no teeth of my own left by the time I get to 50.

If your dentist can't fit you in for extraction can they make a referral to your local NHS? My daughter was referred like this and the wait was less than 2 weeks.

The referral they did for me last time took 6 weeks to go through. I hate having to pay this much but at least I know the surgeon will get them out safely.
My dentist has done 2 of my teeth before, one took an hour with lots of digging, her sweating and all 3 of us ending up sprayed in blood and the other one took 90 minutes, 2 dentists trying before they gave up and left me with the roots stuck in my jaw for 3 weeks to then have to wait for this surgeon.

The two I had out in decemeber, one had curly roots and was on my sinuses so was a complex surgical extraction.

I just want to get over and done with so i can heal up and get on the way to dentures to get back to some sense of normal. Hate that I need dentures but with only two molars left I don't have a choice.

I have had teeth added to my flexible denture which proved expensive but I have also had some acrylic teeth added to it which were very reasonably priced.

But you CAN add teeth to plastic/acrylic dentures as needed, and they don't absolutely have to have wire clasps if they are well-made and a good fit.

My teeth seem to stay in place with just the good fit , I can’t use those pastes to stick them in , but they don’t move unless I’m daft enough to try eating a toffee !

I have flexible part dentures upper and lower (Valplast). I was told that you only need a minimum of two teeth top or bottom to have flexible dentures fitted. They don't come cheap though as they are not available on the National Health.

Thank you. I don't know that the flexible ones will work for me because you can't add teeth to them and I am losing mine at such a rate it would be very expensive to have to have to buy a whole new denture each time I lose another tooth. After these two it will be 10 teeth in 3 years.. 4 since December alone.

My appointment discussing the tooth removal ran over and I only got to mention that I want to take the denture route after the extractions and she just said there are a few options which I have since read up on and concerned I won't be able to have any!
It was a quick see me 3 months after extractions to discuss it.. I need the teeth out regardless, they're cracked.
NHS dentist couldn't do them for 6 weeks so I am having to pay a private surgeon 1k to remove them next week.

The same happened in December and it cost me £800. I don't even work because of other health problems and don't get government help. One wage is tough with bills like this coming in.

What does your dentist suggest?
I'm sure there will be an option but know almost nothing about the engineering side of dentistry.
