Has anyone tried a cryotherapy wrap after a total knee replacement? DH is due one next month and I see a machine can be hired post op to help reduce swelling/pain etc. Thanks!

I agree when a bone is rubbing on bone that is classed as grade 4 and surgery is the only option.

I tried everything but if the cartilage is gone it's gone ☹️

I took Glucosamine for ages but decided it was doing zilch for me, it was surgery I needed.

I have tried turmeric, glucosamine, magnesium but to be honest I don’t think they can do anything if your joint is damaged. Roll on my TKR. Still no date!

Right, now are there any things I can do to alleviate my arthritis in knees and hip?
OK lose weight watch my blood sugars.
Anything else ? Does turmeric help?

You can drive after a set time- I think it is 6 weeks but could be longer. Ditto with putting your socks and shoes on. I have forgotten the time, but you must use gadgets for a few weeks. yes, eventually you will be able to care for yourself.

At least getting this hip replaced will take some of the strain of the previously replaced hip.

You should have a chat with an occupational therapist, sooner rather than later about what you can and cannot do. You can also practice at home eg putting your socks and shoes on without bending down.

After seeing gp yesterday he told me he is referring me with a view to having my left hip replaced. I already had the right one done in 2022.
Can anyone give me Info on how this works, are there extra restriction when living with both hips done, will I be able drive,bend to put on socks and shoes and look after myself independently.

It sounds like osteoporosis and there is a possibility that may be treated before he has surgery or there could be a repeat performance.

In 2009 I fell down 3 steps, #dislocation of my ankle which was pinned and plated. It was found I had osteopenia which leads to osteoporosis if untreated. I have taken drugs for life since but I had to be very careful for 6 months until the drugs work

My brother is in hospital waiting for a hip op’ .
He didn’t fall but his hip broke last weekend. He has just been told that his op’ has now been postponed until next Thursday. They are looking into why his hip went so suddenly , no pain with it before, although he does have other medical issues.

Yes hips seem to be more straight forward operations though knees are extremely successful too, so win win. 🏆

I didn’t know I was having a spinal till I was in theatre ! It was the best thing ever
I had a light sedation so knew nothing till I was being wheeled into recovery
That was 6 years ago , I have to pinch myself when I remember how much more I can do now compared to before surgery
