You aren’t answering my question nadateturbe. I asked how much more tax you would be willing to pay in an effort to stop reliance on food banks. I even offered you a suggestion, foregoing your personal allowance. Easier to expect someone else to do it?

(391 Posts)As a royalist but also a princess Diana fan, I'm struggling, I can't stand to see camilla crowned queen, I don't want to watch, it's making me less of a royalist, I wish he'd just pass it on to William and Kate

In other news, I have stumbled across the fact that the majority of men in my office (in their 30's and 40's) had absolutley no idea of KC & QCC and that recorded telephone conversation from 1989. I have shared the transcript and have been Regal"ed" (pun) with horrified moans from colleagues who claim to be traumatised.
I feel I have done good work here in order for colleagues to be fully informed when the doffing of caps and pledges are called for.
Good work MsFitz 😂

There is also the argument that the coronation by attracting visitors to London rather than the rest of the country is causing more financial problems for other holiday destinations. After all, it is one of the most expensive places to stay, and if you spend your holiday budget there you won't go elsewhere.
The same reason is valid to argue against the up to £3.1million” of taxpayers money being given to fund Eurovision. You will have heard of the rocketing accommodation prices in Liverpool up to and during the contest. If you payed those prices, only the richest will be going to holiday somewhere else as well.

Never understood the Eurovision craze. How is it that this is the only remnant of Europe we want to cling on to? But yes, another instance of one area grabbing money. Didn't the Irish stop wanting to host it because of the cost?
I think you don't have an answer, so chose to ignore my question.
Money going into the economy may well directly benefit some food bank users, such as those on low pay in hospitality and other service industries catering to those coming to London. Your turn now. What are you willing to sacrifice to end reliance on food banks?

I'm not presuming to speak for nadateturbe, but the idea of scrapping a personal allowance would put an intolerable burden on those with least money, as I am sure you know.
Someone on £13k would pay 20% of their total income, instead of 20% of the tiny amount above the allowance, whereas someone on £130k would see a very small percentage increase.
Surely we should all ask what can I do, rather than what someone else can do. The personal allowance comment was made in a futile attempt to get some reaction from someone who says they don’t pay much tax as they are retired. My question remains, how much more tax is the poster willing to pay? I’m beginning to assume that the answer is ‘none’.

GSM, how? It's a serious question. I don't see how the money will find its way to foodbank users. I'm happy for you to tell me.
Tax is a different topic entirely. It's irrelevant to my question.
To use those tapes from 1989 is a case of rock bottom and still drilling

Replaying old tapes illegally obtained to your young colleagues? Really?
I'd call that salacious.
And no-one is calling for pledges
It was a suggestion by the Archbishop and a "No, I'd rather not" is sufficient.
Yes! I call it a public service.
Annieback - "in your opinion" - my opinion - in actual cold hard fact - the tapes were front page news, it's been played out as TV Drama for the masses (2.87 million, The Crown, Netflix). The main players are front and centre tomorrow in a gilded coach with jewels and pearls. It makes me, as I said in an earlier post, twitchy.
And I doubt there will be doffing of caps either, but as a turn of phrase "calling for pledges" works. Nit pick away though if you've nothing better to do. My initial reaction to the suggestion by the Archbishop was "I will on my - " ...
There's such mean comments, snide (better word than sarcasm bandied about on here) directed at Princess Diana over her behaviour which predates those tapes, and I'm accused of "rock bottom and still drilling". Honest to goodness! Pot / Kettle.
I'm going missing for a bit - leaving my office, heading home, chilling the champagne for tomorrow, collecting a bunch of soft toys to chuck at the telly for the close-ups. Have a great evening all.
Just put my bunting up outside, and the union flag is ready
for tomorrow morning. Quiche made (not broad bean and spinach but the salmon and asparagus one that someone kindly posted on another thread; delicious), prosecco chilling so all set.
A Happy Coronation Day to you All!
My reference to Diana and the men she had affairs with are not from illegal tapes but what she said

I meant to make a quiche! 😲
Never mind, there's always baked beans .......
I wish I'd found this thread earlier! Koalama you took the words right out of my mouth!! I can just about stomach Charles, as after all he is the rightful successor, but I will never, ever look upon that scheming woman as queen! I will certainly not be watching the ceremony, but I'm partial to the pomp and ceremony and the amazing precision of the military so I shall be watching that. Probably do my Tesco shop while they're being crowned!
Funny how many ragged trousered philanthropists are still around.
Like her or not, I don't think it's right to describe Camilla as scheming. How is she scheming and where is the evidence of this?
Harry said it
I think I'd be quaking in my boots if I were Harry coming face to face with Camilla now after what I'd said about her. 👜 😤
LondonMsFitz at 17.38 bringing a bot of good old English irony
I’m watching with a republican feminist friend. She wants to comment on hats while watching history made. I’m happy to enjoy that with her, as well as loving the music and the pageantry. Those horses and their riders.
