Just posted but as per it’s not on the active list, so giving it another try ….

I didn’t get special slippers, mine were £5 from asda. They have a back but I can put them on without bending. I still use my shoe horn, have a selection now upstairs and downstairs.
Once your hip is done the pain in that leg will go. Not long now. Keep in touch

It's great that you're having your op so soon. I don't know what to say about slippers other than that I never wore the special ones I bought for after my op!!

I am lookout for slippers again. I bought the ones from Next before my knee surgery, but couldn’t get them on as foot of operated leg was swollen. I wear slip on mule slippers from Pavers at home, can’t seem to find anything with a back that I could get on. Help!

Hello everyone. I have a date of 24th August for my right hip replacement. Amazed it is so soon as only saw Consultant 19 July and it’s NHS!
My right TKR was February. I have been struggling for a while as knee was getting along ok then hip started to kick in. Still using a crutch. Consultant said back in Feb that hip would need doing within the year.
Does hip start to affect the knee?
So hoping I will cope with it all. At least have all the stuff you all told me to get before the knee op. That was so useful, and I have have been able to pass that info on to a friend who has just had his hip done.

Aveline I have two broken toes too. Big one and middle one. It does hurt so can only manage house/garden and am taking ibuprofen. It happened two weeks today so have a few weeks more pain I think. However grateful that my newish hip stayed in one piece.

I fell a couple of years ago and knew the treatment was a below knee plaster for breaking a big toe and I argued with the nurse who sent me home with one bare foot, that one as it was too painful and swollen. Luckily I had kept the crutches from a previous knee replacement.

I did have an OPD appointment for 2 weeks to see an orthopaedic surgeon and he agreed with me and did the necessary. I was lucky.

My DD has a probable fracture of her two middle toes and is only able to walk with great pain. Hospital said they don't X Ray feet any more and gave her a plaster away to put on herself. They suggested she bind it round the next toes. No follow. Nothing. Not impressed..

Charley I went straight to our local hospital on return. The hospital abroad was an 80 mile round trip.
I wasnt offered another appt but someone from the hospital left a garbled message on my phone a couple of days later. Just about management, hard soled shoes. Elevation etc.

It takes at least 6 weeks for a fracture to heal. If possible keep the toes strapped together and try to rest and when resting keep the leg elevated.

Were you treated in this country? If so they knew very little about orthopaedics.

You should have been given an appointment to see an orthopaedic surgeon 6- 8 weeks after the accident,

I am aware it is difficult but try to walk as little as possible.

I wasnt offered that Charley. Assume a Pop is plaster?
Just a sticky tape with the middle broken toe attached to its neighbour and another round my big toe. Dont know how long I need to keep it on. Any advice welcome.
Havnt had a bath fir a week as the tape will come off and I woukdnt do it as well as they did. Of course I wash, luckier than my gran, who only had one cold water tap in her house (and always smelled of lavender. ).

silverlining the correct way to treat a great toe is a POP below knee.

Sorry to see that you have broken your toe SL, thank the lucky stars your hip is safe.

Poor thing silverlinings! Broken toes can be very painful. So lucky about your hip. I dread falling!

I had a bad fall on my new hip side onto concrete a couple of weeks ago and happy to report my hip is ok. Was abroad at the time so very relieved I only broke my big toe. .. and not my hip.

Strange isn't it! Someone I know referred to surgical extrusions as a thing. Will look it up

I have never heard of extrusions in my entire life. It sounds really odd to me.
Bits of cement are not left in your knee joint.

Does anyone have experience of extrusions with TKR?
I saw my Consultant last week about hip surgery and asked him about the scratch like marks below my operated knee. Was told they were extrusions and had better keep an eye on it! I understand it is the cement they use around the new knee joint.

From professional experience *Lucky it depends entirely on the surgeon. I would like mine to be robotically assisted because then the measurement is 100%.

Hips are lasting longer but a lot also depends on your age and lifestyle.
