Slippers what type after a hip operation

I wore Skechers slippers after both my hip operations. They were easy enough to put on using a long handled shoe horn.

I don’t wear anything on my feet indoors so just carried on like that after my surgery last year. I had Skechers for outdoors as they’re very easy to put on, and if I had cold feet when sitting around I just draped a fleece throw over my legs/feet.

I cannot bend down easily to put on shoes easily.
This is what I do.

In warmer weather I wear suede, tie/up trainers.
Bear with me!
I have put special stretchy laces in them - they convert the trainers into slip ons.
I only put the laces in half way up, so that it creates a larger ‘foot hole’.
My favourites are Puma, they are the most comfortable and the sole has a good degree of ‘squish’.

In colder times, I wear UGG boots or similar.
To create a large foot access point, I cut down the inner side seams.

The other boots I favour are Hotter whisper (I wear these indoors too - they are more than light and comfy for this).
They have side zips which you can leave partly open in order to put them on and off easily.

Sunfield91 I can't offer any useful advice as I don't do slippers. I've had my hip done recently and its really interesting to note how different the post op protocols are. I had inflatable devices on my lower legs for (I think) 36 hours, started anticoagulants the day after surgery but no elastic stockings thank heavens. In terms of movement, I'm on "restriction free" which means I can move my hip in any way that feels comfortable though avoiding extreme positions and not over exercising. I hate having cold feet so I hope you can find a way of keeping them warm

Sorry Sunfield191 I thought you weren’t mobile at the moment and just wanted something you could slide your feet into to keep them warm. I can’t walk in slippers of any kind, I have to take trekking sandals to wear in hospital.

After any type of hip or knee surgery, backless slippers are verboten. Try to avoid anything which needs fastening even with velcro because it still has to be reached, ditto a zip.

Try not to buy a brand new pair which has to be "worn in" before they feel really comfortable.

After my hip surgery I wore my Sketchers, hand me downs from DGD2 who had outgrown them! They are very light and warm, and easy to put on with the long handled shoe horn. I won't wear slippers without backs, don't feel safe in them.

I have mobility issues and thus (on the advice of medics) I don't wear "slippers". Instead, I wear a pair of (comfortable & supportive) shoes which I keep for use in the house. They have velcro fasteners, so are easy to manage. I feel safe and secure - and I have warm feet!

Having had two hip replacements always worn Shoezone Hobos following surgery don't trust soft slippers having once tripped These Hobos are for men but do small sizes which fit men and women.No zips are needed for these slip ons.
I have a very long shoehorn which helps ease on these shoes.

I think I’ll give these a trial particularly because of the front zip it means I’m not pushing my feet into them because the last thing I want to do is damage the new hip

Mules are not a good idea for the elderly or people with mobility problems. Keep to shoe like slippers or slipper boots.

Your daughter is right. I have some sheepskin boots with a firm sole for popping outside and safer on stairs and very easy to pop your feet into. I got them from a Sheepskin shop in Lynton, North Devon which doesn't help you but try googling sheepskin boot slippers. If I find a link, I will come back to you.
