You'd have had Heparin injections in your tum.
Was there perhaps a blood clotting problem while you were in hospital ? Covid has been known to cause blood problems in some people so it sounds as though they're being cautious.

I take Bisoprolol too as well as Warfarin and in the past was also given Heparin in the tum to start with.
I at least had a diagnosis of Atrial Fibrillation but it doesn't appear that you've been given a diagnosis.

My husband takes Apixaban daily following a stroke and diagnosis of Atrial Fibrillation.
You should contact your GP and ask her why you need to be on it.

GP very concerned about me taking these meds but has to prescribe just in case anything happpens to me. She is on the case trying to get me seen at the hospital. Hoping this wont take too long.

It must be difficult being on a medication when you do not know why.....I hope you get an answer soon.

I am on Riveroxaban (similar sort of thing) but I know why. I have very occasional AF and apparently it can cause clots as the blood pools in the heart while it is not pumping properly. I only have episodes about twice a year but they said that only have it occasionally is more reason for taking it - so down the neck it goes!

I take both Apixaban and Bisoprolol, but I do have Angina and Atrial Fibrillation..

Obviously you need to find out why you have been prescribed these drugs but they are sometimes used as a prophylactic and my understanding is that neither should be stopped abruptly. I was prescribed both when my heart went into atrial flutter. Three months later I was given a cardioversion which successfully stopped the flutter but I will need to continue with the drugs until I can get an appointment for an ablation, which will hopefully give me a permanent cure. FWIW my GP changed me from Apixaban to Edoxaban as this only needs to be taken once daily, like the Bisoprolol, so there's less likelihood of me missing a dose. It is annoying to be on any medicines and I asked if I could stop taking them now my arrhythmia had stopped but was strongly advised to keep taking them as they were preventative.

Sounds as though the hospital found you might have had a blood clotting problem....Do hope this gets sorted ASAP... Good luck.

I too have AF. I was switched from Apixaban to Edoxoban because the GP said it was cheaper.

I am not a fan of taking pills that I don't need but I am on Apixaban; and I would rather that than be at risk of a stroke or other blood clot.

There are so many unknowns with Covid - no one wants side effects as well. Hope you get your answers from the Health Care professionals!

Sometimes a blood thinner is given short term to over 60s if you have been in hospital for a period of time.
It could also be given if you have atrial fibrillation I think.

Can you phone your GP or hospital team to find out exactly why this should be a permanent thing?
