Reading glasses

I too have had glasses from Poundland for years now. It's strange because I can see close work, the PC/books etc. with 2.5 strength. When I put on older 1.25 strength I can see far, far into the distance with them!

Both my near and far sight is deteriorating yet these glasses work for both. Sounds ridiculous but it's true.

I found out when I was trying them on in the shop, something distracted me and made me look to the end of the shop and realised I could see very much better!

Just as well as my prescription glasses broke.

I also have several pairs from Poundland and have them scattered round. They come in particularly useful in the kitchen when my 'proper' reading glasses are next to my chair.

If its just reading glasses why don't you just try some the local
'Poundland' or other 'cheap shop'?

I bought four pairs a couple of days ago - two (2.50) for me, two (3.00) for OH.

Perfectly good - and at only £1.00 each -what a bargain!

My husband orders 10 pairs at a time on line for me. No prescription, but strength 250. Very cheap.
Having said that, I'm now finding that I don't need them at all for some things - such as online forums.
Maybe because I've enlarged them with cntrl +scroll up and down to find the best setting?

Specs Direct are very good DH often messes up his order ( says he can’t see the screen properly because he needs new glasses) and they will ring him up, after checking his past purchases if it looks a bit odd.

DH always buys his online, he loses them...........

The problem with buying glasses online is that you really need an accurate pupil-distance measurement as well as a current prescription. You can measure your own PD by holding a ruler to your forehead whilst looking in the mirror - but if it's not accurate you may experience problems with your vision and headaches. Also, in an opticians they will fit and adjust the frame as necessary.
Sorry if that all sounds a bit of a hassle but 15 years working in a high street opticians has made me a bit wary of online sellers.
westcoaster your prescription is your property and Boots or any other opticians should not hold onto it. Ask them for a copy - they must let you have it.

Looks good to me and as soon as I can get my prescription from my optician I’ll be having some more reading glasses

After managing to break both pairs of reading glasses at the beginning of lockdown I would love to have tried buying replacements online.
Sadly Boots opticians (ours at least) don't give you the prescription form!
I'm due to go again soon so I really must ask for it as I'm sure they're supposed to hand you a copy.
