Shocking isn't it - he didn't get a numb leg though as the plunger wasn't pressed!

Hey there, I am so sorry to hear about your fear of the dentist. I totally understand how you feel as I have suffered from this a long time as well.
It’s actually embarrassing none of my friends or family have ever had the same issues. I would love to help you and tell you what I did to help me get over this fear.
I tried many different things and none worked as well as this.
I actually came across a video on YouTube that I followed and it worked really well.

I have a phobia about Dentists too, bad memories of the School Dentist in the mobile caravan in the 1950s. But a few years ago I went privately to a Cosmetic Dentist and he is brilliant, talks me through everything first and they know I have problems even getting over the doorstep and they are very kind. Parking is easy ( if I thought I couldn’t park at the various NHS dentists that would be my excuse for cancelling) and they know me well.
The charges can be eye watering but as I hadn’t been to a dentist in a very long time, that’s my fault. He will always try to save a tooth and they are always done well.
If you are near Oxford I can let you have his name, although due to Covid he isn’t taking on any new patients at the moment.
But I would advise you to change your dentist.
Before Covid a lot of his patients were people who had gone to cheap foreign dentists and he was redoing their shoddy work.

I am another person who is terrified of going to the dentist. I had awful treatment as a child with large fillings done without pain relief ,practically all my teeth filled by early teens. Now I'm older the teeth are cracking off around the fillings. Main problem also is I had an anaphylactic shock to local anaesthetic 9 years ago and have not been to a dentist since then.
Really feeling low about state of my mouth now and affecting my eating but don't know who to go to. A couple of local dentists have declined treating me as I am high risk from anaphylaxis.
What can I do next ?

My heart feels for you. I use to be like this until i found the practise i am with at the moment. Over 20years of attending. My BIGGEST fear is that my dentist will leave and go eslewhere. He is so kind and gentle i never feel afraid at going. If you are in the Hertfordshire area i can give you the name of the practise. PM me for details.

My dentist is both nhs and private so when I get nhs treatment, if I require anything more complicated , I just get private. I am terrified of dentists after 2 bad experiences, I go into shock and can't stop shaking, I need an implant as I can't cope with a denture. I have changed practices twice and dentists twice in my current practice. Then young girl I have now is fab, she chats to me to distract me, also my gp will give me a couple of tranquilisers to take before the visit.

Before i signed up i was reading about people who have been to the Dentist but the Dentist wouldnt take the tooth out because it was a gum problem.
I now have the same problem. I can not take pain killers...iam in consent pain..
Surely if they take the tooth out the pain would go.
Any advice please.

I'm no expert, but I have had teeth taken out due to gum problems, and it has solved the issue.
Do you have an abscess?
I know they will usually give antibiotics before removing the tooth in that case.

After bad experiences, always avoided dentists wherever possible. Just before lockdown HAD to have an extraction. Anti climax, did not know it was out until he showed me.
Sadly, with the pandemic, he has retired and gone back to South Africa, so don't know who,, if anyone, I'll have..
