Liver scan

If it is endoscopy insist that they give you the knockout injection! Apparently you;re not completely out but I certainly didn't know or care what they were playing at!

Ring them and ask what to expect!

Have you had the usual ultrasound scan of the liver ?

Ring the consultant’s secretary and ask what to expect. I have always found them very helpful and understanding. I’ve had gall stones removed by endoscope and it was fine. I wasn’t unconscious but was completely unaware of what was going on and was fine afterwards. The staff expected me to be nervous and couldn’t have been kinder. I hope all will go well for you.

Yes I had one in X-ray dept.

There is in use a fibroscan which is placed on the surface of the abdomen and measures the amount of damage to the liver. It's a non-invasive procedure and doesn't take long.

Don't worry about gagging. I was daft enough not to realise that I was having a minute camera up my nostril and into the neck area for thyroid testing and as it tickled my throat, I gagged, then apologised for my sensitive reflexes.

It's a very thin flexible tube which you won't feel and usually an anaesthetic isn't necessary.

Too anxiety provoking to ring and ask to speak to someone, I’ll stutter and feel stupid.
It’s today ( avoided reading letter properly when it arrived? just put date/time on calendar)

I would definitely advise sedation for an endoscopic procedure. Some things are best done without us being aware!

The tip of my liver on the right-hand side can be felt during abdominal examination because I have very little fat around my stomach/abdomen. It set up a bit of a panic with a doctor who'd examined me so sent me for an ultrasound-----glad to say all was well and it was on account of me being slim that it could be felt so prominently. He must have thought my liver was floating around, detached ! Silly man.

When I had endoscope I was given gas and air for the initial swallow and then it was all fine. Good luck.

I have never heard of a liver scan by endoscopy, i have had a liver biopsy, which didn't hurt at all and several liver scans

I've had the intrasound scan, nothing else.
I was going for a stomach endoscopy and watched the screen, The doctor got to some organ or other, and I said "is that my stomach?" He said no it's your liver.
So I asked how it was.
He replied "ca va." Which I took to mean, ok, not bad.

Well the clinic was held in the endoscopy unit but was a fibre scan and totally not invasive, just felt like tapping on my side, the nurse specialist was lovely and once I’d relaxed it was all over in a few minutes.
Informed I have a fatty liver and advise is to follow a Mediterranean diet and stop drinking alcohol ( so annoying as I’m not much of a drinker at all)

Surprising how they can tell if you drink or not because alcohol does produce a fatty liver.

Most people have a fatty liver eventually, it can be caused by much meat eating and some other foods,you don't have to be a drinker

Obesity now causes the most problems with fatty liver, apparently. My cousin has terrible problems and he doesn't drink at all and never has.

Well EllanVannin no fat around my liver either, i eat meat, but not a big meat eater, and i don't drink alcohol either, but i would say most people who do,have a fatty liver
Although the only people i know who have a fatty liver do drink, but my son as told by his Dr that most people do have a fatty liver, even if they don't drink,but eat a lot of meat, my son was a big meat eater and drinks,has cut down now

I probably drink the recommended units in a week, once a month or so, can often go 3 months without having any alcohol.
I do eat meat but only 2/3 times a week and mostly chicken.
I’m overweight but not massively.
I have been taking antidepressants and NSAIDS for over ten years so wonder if that’s the cause, I’ve stopped the pain relief over the last 6 months and use a tens machine and shanti mat with regular massages, luckily I finished work this year so if I’m struggling with pain, I can go to bed with heatpad or lie on sofa, no more shoving pills down to try and do my job.
