Water infection

I think our grandmothers must have suffered dreadfully in years gone by. I remember my gran telling me they didn't even have aspirin.

You can buy portable bidets from ebay for about £8 which are a bit like a bedpan and which you can fill with warm water and sit into the toilet bowl (with the seat up), I use mine to freshen up whenever needed.
However, It is very helpful to sit in the warm water bidet and maybe have a tap trickling into the sink to enable you to wee into the water if you have cystitis or similar, it will sting/burn less.
My mum used to swear by barley water to neutralise urine acidity, she would boil it up herself (not use the Robinsons stuff). I suppose before NHS and antibiotics this was the type of remedy they had to use.

No it wasn't me crazyH, as I said I never found it effective. But as we know, what suits one doesn't suit another! When you are in pain you are willing to try anything. I just wish it did cure it for me, much better than having to take antibiotics. Over the years there have been many occasions when I have sat on the loo all night crying with pain, trying to pass water. I hope the gentleman's wife feels better soon.

Agree Littleannie - I swear by cranberry juice - as soon as I feel uncomfortable down below, I drink 2 glasses of cranberry juice (which I always, always have in my kitchen cupboard). And job done....no cystitis

I never found cranberry juice to be effective BradfordLass.
Coil - hopefully the doctor will have the results tomorrow, and can then prescribe the correct antibiotic. Make sure your wife drinks plenty of water, as this helps to flush the infection out. When it hurts to pass water you don't want to drink more and have to go more often, but it does help.
Cystitis is horrible and can be difficult to treat. I hope your wife feels better soon.

Cranberry juice and acidophilus bifidus capsules or yoghurt internally and externally have helped many people with this painful and debilitating complaint.

Cornsilk is extremely soothing for burning or painful urination due to irritation of the bladder and urethral walls. It's available as capsules too.

That sort of sample is not unusual and I am glad your wife is seeing the doctor and don't forget samples can take a few days to establish the type of infection.

Antibiotics can also cause unwanted infections too as over-use of them isn't advised either.

It's another term for a urine infection, or cystitis.

Can someone please explain a 'water infection' ? Is this from drinking infected water?

This is a common story but nonetheless a water infection can be a very nasty illness if left unchecked.

Your wife is obviously doing the right thing and the doctor will have to act accordingly with the type of infection as it/they occur.

The only advice I can offer is if watch out for flushing, temperature and muddled thinking which if that happens do not let things manifest into a severe problem. Water infections can be b-----s to treat and the symptoms can at times be quite alarming and manifest quickly.

Best of luck and I am sorry your wife is suffering but she sounds a lucky person to have a husband who is obviously concerned and caring for her.

The dr will have sent the sample off for analysis.Hopefully you will get initial results tomorrow,results usually come back pretty quickly.I think you will have to wait to see what the dr says.Maybe phone the surgery in the morning and ask when you can expect the results and ask for a phone consultation with the dr.

Surely the GP is treating it ? Or at least given her a diagnosis ?Any further investigations seeing that this has been ongoing ?
X-Rays ? IVP's ? Scans ? Blood-tests ? GTT's ?

I think you need to speak to the doctor concerned.
