Lurgy advice

Thank you all - good news and bad it seems.
The good news is that it isn’t terminal
The bad news is that it just feels that way.
I have some important things happening in the first half of March, youngest DD’s first baby due any day (But being a first baby it might be a week or so late) , eldest DD’s and SIL’s birthdays, 70th birthday lunch for middle DD’s MIL who sadly has Alzheimer’s and <whisper > my own birthday - so the timing is not great

Plenty of clear fluids may help. I suppose that is a bit of an obvious remark. Hope you're better soon.

We had a lurgy thread in early February. Everyone was saying it lasted a month, but I had been unwell for two days and then recovered so I felt very smug.

Until three days later when it descended on me, cough, cold and I completely lost my sense of smell so food lost all its flavour. Now, a month later, all my smugness has gone, and I am just, I hope, finally returning to normal. I am still coughing a bit, but I can smell things again and my nose has stopped running.

So I am sorry mawbroon, 3-4 weeks it is and there is no way round it.

We had it for all of December and then it has been back to visit us again this February! I think almost everyone has had the cough this winter. Just rest, watch TV, read or listen to a talking book. Forget the housework and any other non urgent jobs. REST! I also started taking extra vitamins and drinking hot honey and lemon. Just spoil yourself!! And yes, visit Dr. if there is any chance it could be a chest infection (which is what I ended up with and then the antibiotics drained any energy too!) At least we are not worrying about getting back to work!

Sorry you feel so poorly Maw. You will have to sit it out I'm afraid, as soon as you do something, like others have said it returns twice as bad. Watch the cough though, mine turned into a chest infection and had to be treated with antibiotics, if you are at all worried and it goes worse, get in touch with the doc.

Maw, this sounds exactly like what hit me on 2 January. Like you, I felt more or less OK by Day 5 and foolishly went out running errands and going to the supermarket. On Day 6, I could hardly get out of bed as all the symptoms returned two or three times worse than before.

I don't want to depress you, but it took a good 4 weeks for the symptoms to clear and the post-viral fatigue lasted into late February. I've never been susceptible to sleeping in my chair in the afternoons but, for a while, was actually doing this almost on a daily basis.

I don't know if it's a cold or some kind of flu but it's horrid so be gentle with yourself and rest assured, it will get better eventually.

I know how you feel as I've been poorly for several days now. And I'm not a very good patient! x

I had something similar, but with less severe symptoms, and a high temperature for about a week. I concluded that I had had the flu in a mild way, having had the jab.

Rest and fluids are the only way forward. Think of all those times when having a rest would have been the height of luxury - find a good film on TV - lie back and wait for your immune system to get stuck in there.

make sure you rest try and have some vitamin c like oranges refreshing and very good for you i hope you will feel better soon in the meantime make the most of sofa time!

Rest is the only cure I'm afraid, so you'll just have to take root on the sofa for now------not that you'll feel fit enough to do much else.
I think the world and his wife had this before and during Christmas, I know because it was the second Christmas which was spoiled for me.
I had the sneezing fits and exhaustion which went with it but no cough and it took all of 3 weeks before I felt anything like " human ".

All you can do is to let it take its course unfortunately as it's when you think it's gone and you start doing things it returns with a vengeance.

This is all after the flu jab !!

Sorry to hear you are poorly Maw, what you describe is all around this part of SE Essex, just as you think you are up and running it comes back and gets you!!! The cough seems to linger for several weeks. ?
