Oh dear how painful for you. I hope you get your operation/procedure soon. Its a very successful intervention and you should be able to return to a normal diet as soon as you have recovered.

I had mine removed at the age of 40 by the old, big scar route - just missed out on the keyhole surgery.

The pain of gallstones is indeed something else. Unfortunately I still get it sometimes as my bile duct goes into spasm - now that hurts! I still have to avoid too much fat, but my track record with surgery is not good - doctors' wives always seem to get some complication!

However, I know loads of people who have had the keyhole surgery, recovered at great speed and eat whatever they like. One young Mum of 4 children was at the school sports day 3 days later!

I do hope the surgery comes up soon and you will be able to tuck in to your bacon and egg!

Same as Lucky, I had the Big Op - plus the surgeon removed my appendix, so I have a lovely 'zip' of a scar!! He told me that, regarding eating afterwards, it's a case of One Man's Meat etc, and so it proved to be. I still avoid eating fatty food, not because it causes pain, but it has a tendency to travel through my digestive system a tad too quickly (if you get my drift , so I never eat it if I'm going to be going out later in the day!!

I should also add that I felt so much better post surgery - not just pain-free, but actually better in myself. Hope it's the same for you, Mammab

I had keyhole surgery, left the hospital the next day and am fine, but avoid fatty stuff as it travels too quick!

Spent last New Year in hospital with my first ever attack of Gall Stones and an infected Gall Bladder. Had the gall bladder removed in May, as a day case, in at 7.30am out at 3pm, no problems, felt tired and there was discomfort from the air put in to the abdomen to see what they are doing, for a couple of days. Was able to fly back to Cyprus within two weeks. Still on a low fat diet (SW) as I am in the middle of loosing weight, (4 stone so far) so that suits me fine and is an 'medical' excuse when I eat out

must say this is reassuring that it seems to be a quick recovery op and return to normal diet afterwards.
I dont tend to eat fried food anyway but at present I cant eat any meat, cheese or even bread without a reaction, and eating out is a nightmare as most foods seem to involve lovely sauces etc .
Well done Pippa000 on losing so much weight. I used to attend slimming world and found it very good -I play with 1/2 stone on 1/2 stone off but enjoyed the classes.

I have been suffering with gallstones for over 18 months. After a scan I was found to have a stone lodged in the bile duct. 3 ERCP's have failed to remove stone and hospital I have had the procedures have not got the necessary equipment to recover the stone so I have been waiting (6nonths) for different hospital appointment. I will then be able to have gallbladder removed. Never thought I'd look forward to an operation. I am experiencing pain in the region frequently, I can bare but uncomfortable. I feel I am flogging a dead horse ringing my consultants secretary, asking what's going on, she just find me off with you are in the list. My first 3 procedures where done at 4 monthly intervals, no bother. Has anyone out there had this problem and had it sorted. The last sedated ERCP was particularly unpleasant.

I had unbearable pain from gallstones and had an operation after many trips to A&E. I eventually had the big op as it was too infected to do key hole. I soon recovered and now only avoid cheese as I feel sick after eating it, sometimes I have a little bit. I can tell if a meal has been very fatty, I have to dash to the loo.

I had the keyhole op a year ago and find I can eat what I like. I've had just one episode since, which I take to be a 'spasm', which was very painful. It was also frightening as I wasn't aware that it could happen. I thought once you'd had the thing removed, no more pain. I just wish I'd been warned that it could occur.
