Shingles vaccine

Had it two years ago along with the flu jab at the same time I had no reaction, I didn't notice the injection being any different to any other so no pain either

My personal opinion is to keep away from statins

My DH was offered the jab along with his flu jab and thinks that might be why what happened after.

He had spots come up all over his body we counted one day and he had around 90. This went on for around 6 months. The doc said it was nothing to do with the jab but in my mind, it was too much of a coincidence. He was given all sorts of cream which did nothing.

I reckoned the problem came from the inside and got him to take probiotics and gradually they disappeared.

My advice would be don't have the shingles and flu jab at the same time.

kitty I think that the magic age is 70 for a free jab. If you ask the receptionist she will be able to say if they supply it privately at the surgery and how much it will cost.

I had the jab a couple of years ago with no reaction at all. The nurse who administered it asked that I ring the surgery if there was any sign of a problem as the medical company making the drug wished to know. If you have had a reaction it might be a good idea to let them know if only for research purposes.

I'm too young too but my friend had a dreadful time with shingles so I'd like to have the jab even if I had to pay. I don't know where to access it though.

Ah - I've just looked it up and it would seem I am too young!

Anyone know how you qualify for shingles jab? Do you have a to be a certain age?

As to atovastatin Fidelia - I've been on it a while and no probs at all.

They only give it to children here. having watched my husband suffer for over a year, I would certainly take the risk had have the vaccination were it available to me.

What are your experiences with statins? My doctor has suggested I try them as I have an ongoing battle with a tendency to high blood pressure and keeping my cholesterol levels low despite a careful diet and exercise. Last measurement was 6.7. He has prescribed Atorvastatin but I have felt pretty rough since I started it 10 days ago; nausea, headache, loose bowel movements, aches. I have tried taking it on alternate nights but still the same. I just wondered what others' experiences were. I shall try to get another medical appointment next week when I have felt that I have given it a fair try.

Had mine five days ago. No reaction yet apart from slight stiffness where jab went (hardly felt that). However, I was warned that I could get a rash, as it is a live vaccine and you are being given a mild dose of shingles, and not to worry if I did. Sounds as if your reaction is normal, tiffaney, but I was told to go back if I was worried about reaction. At least you know the vaccine has worked!

I was a bit concerned because I had just finished chemo but the only reaction I had was a red sore arm. I have had chicken pox and shingles twice and was not keen to repeat it.

I agree with Charleygirl, it was a painful jab but I had no reaction.

It's most likely just a coincidence it's happened now. I read the side effects and it said 1 in 10,000 will actually get shingles from the jab. It could only happen to me (smile).

I had no reaction at all even though the nurse said I would feel it as soon as I left the surgery.Perhaps it is different if you have never had chickenpox. I know that I have.

I had no reaction whatsoever. I found the jab painful but I survived.

Hello Tiff sorry to hear about the reaction to the jab. I only got an itchy arm after joy shingles jab.

I have had neuralgia on and off for about 10 years. The moment I feel it coming on I take ibuprofen and Codeine and lie down. It usually passes over.
