I had an injection in my hip for bursitis, the pain got less and less and within a week disappeared, it hasn't come back, that was about 6 months ago

Finally got put on the list to have my L hip replaced , just got another 6mths or thereabouts of pain and limping till it actually gets done. The way things are going I won't be the least surprised if it takes longer.

Pulmonary embolus is usually "silent" and you would not expect to have a cough with it. You have been exceptionally lucky having it diagnosed and treated early.

Have just been diagnosed with pulmonary embolism and the pain started in my hip before rising into the chest, strangely I did not have a cough.
If you have had this pain for many years it could be congenital, DS has permanent hip pain and the consultant told him he had a congenital malformation of one hip joint. He was a very big baby and wonder if he got squashed in the uterus.

Recurring bursitis pain, I meant

I have osteoarthritis in my hip and the plain is sort of a grinding pain, plus seriously reduced movement, due to the growth of nodules I also get recurring pain , it,s sort of burning pain but it's easily identified because it hurts like hell if I touch it. It's easily cured by a(painful) injection.

Osteomyelitis is a very serious condition and cannot be ignored. My GS had 18 days in hospital and 5 ops in 8 days when he was 12/13. It has left him with health issues for the 4 years since.

Great if it works for him Hilda but two doctors told me it was not a good idea to take them both - any anti-inflammatory - think it is to do with the kidneys. But antenolol is a beta blocker so that maybe makes a difference. I do take a different beta blocker but also some more 'normal' blood pressure meds so that could be the reason.

You can take ibuprofen when taking drugs for high blood pressure. My DH takes ibuprofen early morning, and his atenolol at lunchtime. He never takes them together and has never had a problem.

If you are taking prescribed meds for blood pressure be very careful of taking Ibrufen or other anti inflammatory pills - they are not a good combination. The Doctor prescribed Voltarol for me instead of pills because of the blood pressure tablets. I too have the hip pain mainly at night and it comes and goes - sometimes the pain is centred on my knee. The gel does help relieve the pain. When it is really bad I put it on morning and night for a few days and that usually helps things. My pains are much much better once I stand up and move about.

I had a lot of pain in my hip about 20 years ago. A consultant told me there was "something" there and had it X rayed. I had an appointment to go back and see him but my mother died suddenly and I forgot all about it. It still twinges from time to time but I've never got round to finding out what the something is.

whitewave you beat me to it- I was going to suggest that it can be referred pain from the back.

I was taking ibuprofen for hip pain but my GP told me I shouldn't take it because I have high blood pressure. Now stick with paracetomol and occasional co-codomal

I thought my hip was on the way out but have since discovered it is actually sciatica.

One of my hips often aches at night when I am lying down in bed and I need at times to take ibuprofen to relieve the pain so thatIi can sleep. I have no problems during the day, no restriction of movement. I walk a lot,do pilates and swim.

I have had the problem for about 15 years, getting no worse and no better. No idea what the cause is.

f77ms,yes did get it wrong,It's osteomylitis,Researched hip pain and sweating on exertion that was the answer? Also never been troubled with chest,now it's wheezy in the morning and coughing on and off all day.Feel generally unwell? But shared bottle of wine at dinner time.Cheered me up! Am 69, eat really well do a little exercise,but they do say old age doesn't come on its own.Been taking Naproxen which has helped but comes back when I stop.Back to Doc next week.

A good pointer to hip Osteo-Arthritis is if your range of movement in the hip is deteriorating. Try it when lying on the bed knees up, feet flat and then try to drop your knee outwards towards the mattress if its difficult/painful then a trip to the GP should confirm it or not.

I have spells of hip pain, which I assumed was early arthritis. However, I read on Gransnet about Bursitis and concluded that I could well be suffering from it. Try Googling the condition. I hope you will get to the bottom of the problem. Visiting your GP would be a good idea to ease your mind.

The best diagnosticians of joint/muscle pain are often physiotherapists. When I had awful hip pain, my GP sent me to see a physio to find out if I had osteo arthritis. She soon diagnosed just that and I started on the long route to a replacement. So, if there's a physio service available from your local NHS health trust, ask your GP for a referral. You may have to find a private practitioner. Have you had an x-ray or a scan? Better not to scare yourself with self-diagnosis.

Are you sure you got that right Elen oesteomyalgia ? it just means bone muscle pain .. oesteo= bone myalgia= muscle pain . Ibuprofen may help more than asprin or paracetamol if you prefer not to take anything stronger .

Yes taken ibropofen sometimes takes the edge off.

PS, googling symptoms is never a good idea. Go back to the GP if you are worried and still in pain. The cough probably has nothing to do with the hip pain.
