Aids for the disabled

I use my husband, he is great for getting things off top shelves, taking off lids and grating/chopping, but don't know about helping with knickers ?

OH got a sock putter on from OT but it defeats us !!

I bought this sock putter-onner when I tore my shoulder earlier this year. I chose it because it requires one hand only. It works a treat! I still need it as a scan revealed that I still have a full thickness tear in the tendon, so am getting my money's worth. I have a grabber too, which is mostly used when I accidentally drop something in the wheelie bin!

Provided that you are not taking good care of a hip replacement, a grabber can pull your knickers up provided that you can twist comfortably.

If in hospital take your grabber because it is a perfect length for opening and closing curtains.

To get out of bed easily (a friend has this object) is a gadget to sip under the mattress allowing you to pull yourself upright and turn to get out.

Google Mobility Shop and you will see a variety there.

I have a Sock-on which I don't need at the moment - but you never know. The grabber is still in use when I drop something in an inaccessible spot or want to get an object off a high shelf. As for knickers - when I had the shoulder partly replaced, I became very good at pulling them on one-handed. Alternatively - don't wear any.

Yes Charleygirl I shall try the knicker manoeuvre tonight to remove and again in the morning.

I knew I could rely on you all for some sensible advice.

I'm told within 48 hours of starting steroids I should be doing pirouettes, well possibly that is a bit of an exaggeration but you get my drift.

I think that is assuming you could do pirouettes before! It is such a shame you have so long to wait for the blood test. If the surgery is in crisis I am sure the GP could have done it at your last appointment and saved you weeks of hell!

That's not such an exaggeration, NanKate. The effect of my first two doses of steroids was nothing short of miraculous. But take it easy with the pirouettes.

NanKate this may be the only time in your life when it would be easier to wear bloomers to your knees as they would be easier to get on!

My Nan used to wear the most hideous long pink pants to her knees and they were elasticated * Charleygirl*

Yesterday when I got up and hobbled to the mirror I saw my Nan's face.

I shall never be kept 13 days again just for a blasted blood test, I will go straight to the walk in centre at my local hospital.

I can't wait for the miracle Annodomini. I wonder if I should get a shrine erected in my garden.
