NHS yet again

In order to meet target the first appointment must be within a certain amount of weeks from the referral , this appointment I expect could possibly be classed as the first appointment. I retired from the NHS one year ago so cannot say if this is now widespread. You may speak to a nurse, however it sound to me more like an administrator, at least if you speak to someone they can book the appointment on a convenient date. This will cut down the non attendance rate for the clinic. Hope it all goes well.

annuity if it is nhs what are the charges for? Don't tell me they are now going to be making us pay to use one of those special 'pay through the nose' numbers?!

It is an 0333 number. Are those premium rate?.

Just did a search on 0333 and it would appear to be standard rate and also available on mobiles but best to check with the service provider for those rates.

annsixty I am now on the list for a TKR. This is what happened to me.

1)Went to see GP early January to request a referral to be seen on the NHS by a specific orthopaedic surgeon and hospital.

2) This letter had to go to some committee who decided that they would spend the money for my surgery so the letter was forwarded to my hospital of choice.

3) I was seen at the hospital about 3 weeks ago and I am on the list

I think that this telephone conversation is a stalling session to keep them within the 18 weeks or they will be fined.

When I was referred for physio I had an initial assessment by telephone. They rang me and I spoke to a physiotherapist. The discussion was all about my injury and pain level and was the sort of conversation often held at the start of a hospital visit. It seemed to me an excellent way of handling things and meant when I went for my appointment the physio already had a lot of info about me.
