Teeth - dentures

Thank you for your comments all of you. Problem averted. I went to the dentist and had two fillings, didn't need an injection and was told my gum problem was an ulcer just by a tooth root. I had convinced myself it was something serious.

And, following Jane's post - it is technically assault for an ordinary technician to take impressions except under the supervision of a dentist. Round here, Clinical Dental Technicians typically charge 3 times the standard NHS cost. Obviously, certain groups are exempt for any charge and some pay a reduced rate.

I have dentures and have had them since I was 11 I have always hated the fact that I had to have them so young but have never had soreness or rubbing.

Feetle If you get dentures made by a clinical dental technician, you are still paying for the cost of making the dentures in the laboratory, plus the clinical time spent taking impressions, measuring the bite and so on, as you would if you went to a dentist. Their overheads are likely to be similar too, so although you may benefit from someone who spends a lot of their time making dentures, they are unlikely to be cheaper. In fact they will probably be more expensive than NHS dentures, since the price of these is not related to the cost of actually making them and is kept artificially low by the government.
If you go to a dental technician who is qualified only to make dentures and not to do the clinical side, it may be very cheap but there are fairly obvious risks involved.

You can save money by finding a dental technician and bypassing the dentist! Of the money you pay the dentist only a small part goes to the technician who actually makes the denture(s) so they are happy to charge something more reasonable.

Are you having immediate dentures luckylegs? Will there only be two teeth on the denture or do you have other gaps. If you have immediate dentures they may need replacing after a few months as your gums settle down! On the NHS that will cost you £222.50 each time including anything else you have done in that course of treatment.

Well you may get some rubbing which needs an adjustment and it takes practice and time to get used to the feel of it and how to talk and eat with it happily but nothing that can't be overcome with patience. Having said that I know people who never got used to them and gave up wearing their bottom denture. I've never had any pain though apart from a bit of rubbing which my dentist took care of with a minor adjustment.
Others may have a different experience of course but there was no way I was going to be toothless IYSWIM ??

I had to have most of my upper and lower teeth removed, apart from the back molars and front teeth, because of infection.

I have dentures for both and haven't had a second's problem wearing them. No rubbing, soreness or anything else.
