cruralgia

Husband has just been diagnosed with this. We'd never heard of it, but it's similar to sciatica, but even more painful. Something to do with a trapped nerve in an arthritic spinal disc.
He saw a rheumatologist , had xrays and was given an injection and 2 kinds of tablets. After a week he seems almost painfree, but will it last?
Has anyone else had any experience of this, and if so what happened?
It's very disabling, he could hardly move.

I've never heard of it Tricia and I nursed when I was younger. I can only suggest to look it up online and see what it says, but you have probably already done that. I hope he continues to be painfree. smile

I nursed too and never heard of it but specialists are forever redefining things. i have sciatica with a trapped nerve and spinal arthritis only pain killers offered though. Hope it works for him.flowers

Thanks to both of you - I hadn't heard of it either. Not claiming to have nursing training but did study the nervous system at one time.
Evidently the crural nerve is a branch of the sciatic nerve which serves the thigh muscles and skin tissue.
Husband is usually very stoic about pain, so it must be bad.
We're going back on Friday for another injection. The specialist is quite young, very keen and speaks some english! (We're in France.)
Teetime - a friend in England had bad sciatica and her doctor put her on a psychotropic drug which blocks out the pain centre in the brain. And it worked.
