Boiled water still warm and a cotton bud helped me.

My gran always told me to rub fasting spittle on a stye as soon as I felt one coming on,god knows why but its always worked for me .

The next problem will be remembering the next time you need to!

Elegran this is probably why the 'wiping across with cotton bud' helps.

NHS have good advice on treating the condition. How do I share though?

I think the rubbing may have a massaging effect, and clears the blocked hair follicle. A finger does not have such a localised pressure.

The purity of the gold does not extend to purifying what it comes into contact with (see the unicorn myth in "The Lady and the Unicorn", where a young man has great success with telling foolish ex virgins that he can restore their purity by conatct with his "unicorn".

It must be the placebo effect with the gold. It is an inert metal so couldn't possibly have a chemical effect.

Just Googled it - the general view is that it is not the gold that helps, it's the rubbing action on the stye which helps it disappear!

Whenever I had a stye as a child, the gold ring thing worked for me

I am sceptical about Gold working. Can someone at least offer a vaguely scientific explanation about how that might work?

PS Just found some non woven sterile swabs in my husbands medicine bag, will use them, will let you know how I get on, I can not thank you enough.

it has been bothering me for a good few days, I had it and cleaned my eyelashes with ordinary plain water, it went away for about ten days but then came back.

I went to the Opticians and got some Bliphiclean eyelash wipes and it has helped but still kind of there.

Thank you for your help--I will try the salt in boiled water, can I get sterile cotton buds/balls from the chemist?

I assume you're not wearing make up at the moment but, if and when you do change your mascara on a regular basis [or keep it in the fridge] as you may re infect yourself with it.

Anyway flower , the good news is that it healing , I am pleased for you as there is nothing more irritating than a sore eye !

It is itself free from tarnish even after years underground, but as an antibiotic I would hae ma doots.

Fair point Flower, what I shouls have also said is to wipe the ring on a clean cloth afterwards!
All I will say! though on the very ,very rare occasions I have had a stye It has worked for me !

I have it on and off.; My GP suggested to pull down my bottom eyelid and sweep a cotton bud across and the same to the other eye. This stimulates the oils found naturally in the eyelids. Also to cup and heated spoon over the closed eye. A hot clean flannel helps in boiled salted water as Galen says. Nonu NO my mother used to rub her wedding ring over my stye when I was a child I ended up have 6 styes on one eye and 3 on the other at one time. This may infect. The best this is sterile cotton buds as my doc suggested.

I can say from recent blepharitis that the cotton bud 'trick' is working.

Rub a gold ring over the inflammation . Two to three times a day .!!

Boil salt in water. Allow to cool. Use sterile cotton wool pads, to absorb, then, apply to eyelid for about 20mins
