Anyone know a good mosquito repellent?

Mossies love me so I travel fully armed. I wear a band around my ankle . Have a plug-in thing in my room . After a shower with teatree oil gel. I use Avon skin so soft oil spray and spray with a heavy duty deet insect repellent. I’ve found good ones in hiking or camping shops . Another good one is mossie milk from Amazon. I also never wear perfume when I’m away .

In places where mossies carry Malaria I use DEET it’s horrible stuff but works, mosquito coils work too.
They dont bother me much in the UK

I take antihistamines a week before and during any visit to a country where mosquitoes are going to be around. I also use the highest strength deet repellant I can find. It really helps but I still get the odd bite. Mosquitoes love me! I have had an extreme reaction to mosquito bites in the past so I am very careful.

I spent a fortune on Avon Skin so soft, and it didn't work at all, and it made my skin feel sticky,

Listerine mouthwash works for me.

We’ve used several of the generally available ones, TBH they all seem similar. My other essential is Anthisan Cream - in case I get bitten anyway! I don’t go anywhere without it, but very often it’s someone else who needs it.

Yes, it’s an ancient thread, but for once the question is still relevant - those pesky mozzies are still biting in 2024, and they just love the taste of some of us!

I notice Cyprus has had a couple of mentions. I’m surprised, as we’ve just got back from there and for once in my life I haven’t had a single bite. As ever I was armed with the citronella soap, special wristband, Skin So Soft and Jungle Formula, but they’ve never saved me before. I was once bitten twice before I got out of the airport.

The worst infected bite I ever had was delivered in a canal boat in Amsterdam - it took weeks and GP help to clear it up.

Nothing works on me but I have a Beeton's Midge Jacket which keeps the blighters off my skin.

the spray-on repellents containing 98% DEET or 30% PMD had the highest efficacy in repelling mosquitoes compared to repellents with other ingredients. From the five wearable devices that we tested, only the one that releases Metofluthrin significantly reduced the numbers of attracted mosquitoes. A citronella candle had no effect. We concluded that many of the products that we tested that were marketed as repellents do not reduce mosquito attraction to humans.

Take the antihistamine the night before to stimulate your body's response then , again in the morning .
Jungle Formula is good - so another vote !
Take some soothing cream just in case .

To be eaten or smeared on?

Just realised this is a very old thread. Why aren't these threads being removed after so long as the people who have posted the original thread may have solved their problems or have got the advice they were looking for.

I have always used Avon Skin So Soft lotion and have never ever been bitten by anything. We went on a boat on the Everglades in Florida, feeding the Alligators with marshmallows at the end of long sticks. My late husband was bitten from top to bottom even though he was wearing a special band around his wrist, he refused to wear the Skin So Soft because it said it smelled of perfume. The other people on the boat were also fighting off the Mosquitos, they never came near me.

He wore the lotion for the rest of the two week holiday and was never bitten once.

I take it with me wherever I go, I do not know what it is like to have been bitten by anything, it is my go to moisturising body lotion.

Been going to Corfu for many years and love everything about it except the mosquitoes!! This works for me and I wouldn’t travel without it.

We have heavy duty stuff called ‘bushmans’ which does the job well. Green and yellow tube. Might be only in Australia though. We certainly need it in some of the areas here !

I would ask at a pharmacy over there as different mossies in different places require differing formulae. Not necessarily mossies either. It could be noseums. Dreadful tiny black things you never see - hence the name. The last time I used anything was for jungle trekking and I was the only one without a single bite. That was something called Mosquito Milk, readily available online. You can also buy insect repellant clothing but not sure if that helps for where the OP is going! ?

Years ago, whenever on holiday in Spain, my children and I were always covered in mosquito bites, DH never had any.
He swore by a glass of Soberano brandy with his morning coffee.

DH is a permanent target for biting bugs and his immune system goes haywire. What would be a little bite to us turns into a large red lump on him. The only repellent he has found that works is from Life Systems from Go Outdoors. It's not cheap but it works. He also takes antihistamines from March to October so if some little blighter does take a nip his immune system doesn't go into overdrive.

I am living in a green area which is really good, I am quite happy with my grassy and colourful garden but the only issue I face is the mosquitoes therefor I am looking for a best small mosquito killing gadget to get me ride of these bloods creature. My budget is no more than 200$..... I think it is enough, Can anyone help me suggesting best recommend for me? Please clear my mind with your kind suggestions.
