Ironing & ironing boards

I do iron some items out of necessity - I don't particularly like it and I'm not what one would call an expert.

My ironing wouldn't pass a military inspection but I look presentable and that's good enough for me.

Here's the big question...anyone still iron "smalls"...they used to.

I do iron when the weather dictates. From late Sept to mid-April, I let the wind do the work.

But sheets and towels just need a shake out.

I never iron OH does it and always has. He puts on music and blasts the roof off. He only irons clothes and I find my very nice cotton duvets and sheets do not need it. The creases just drop,out. I never use a tumble dryer, I do not have one.

Just one linen blouse and one linen pair of trousers, that's it, apart from alterations/bits of sewing.

But I can actually understand that for some it can be sort of meditative and relaxing, the scents coming out are nice.

Definitely not for me however, I have 100% cotton sheets futons, pillows, but what is the point, after one night there is little difference from well shaken out and smoothed out of the washing machine and hung over doors or bannisters or sometimes a radiator.

I even ironed during lock-down! It took me ages to realise I didn't have to as I never went anywhere. Now I prefer to do it in small bits...never let it build up because it does become a pain then.

I like ironing, and take pleasure in seeing a pile of ironed, folded items, and garments on hangers. I remember ironing my school blouses and my dad’s shirts over sixty years ago.

I iron very little although I do iron our clothes. I got rid of my big ironing board and bought a small one that hangs on a wardrobe rail when not in use.

Another ironer here, especially as I prefer 100% cotton bedlinen. I am old school also in that I prefer to dry clothes outdoors but bring in with bit of dampness in them as best for ironing even with steam iron. I am glad remodeled kitchen now has space for ironing board inside a cupboard with a plug and wall mounted iron'

That sounds heaven I only once had what I call a broom cupboard I miss that so much. I have had the same kitchen since 88 but now I don’t spend much time in it I feel reluctant to upgrade it. Can’t face all the hassle to be honest

I iron fewer things than I used to. T shirts get a shake and 5 minutes on a radiator. I do always iron linen tea towels as it sterilises them. At school we were told to do this as, if there was an accident, a sterilised tea towel could stop the bleeding until help arrived. Thankfully, so far, this hasn't happened.

I love ironing! Put the radio on and away I go. I find it relaxing!

Depends what sort they are, doesn't it? Even as a keen and happy ironer, I wouldn't dream of ironing a terry-towelling tea towel but a smooth cotton or linen one looks like a wrung-out floor cloth until it's ironed.

Totally agree tea towels need ironing I iron all mine
I also iron my sheets and pillow cases, not the duvet as I have one where you wash the whole things and that definitely does not want ironing. It is a godsend for me thanks to Gransnet. I have never been so cosy and warm in bed.

I'm part of a team of volunteers who look after the surplices etc of the local cathedral choir. We are the wardrobe team. I volunteered because I actually like ironing.

I wish you were near me, I cannot find anyone to volunteer to iron our 6 table clothes once a fortnight.
It is my pet hate to see people wearing crumbled/creased clothes it looks so unprofessional if you are still at work and quite frankly I think lazy if you are at home.You can definitely tell if an item has not been ironed. you are kidding yourself if you think not.a A good steam iron and a extra large ironing board makes the job easy. I love ironing it is very therapeutic, but sadly my back can only do 10 minutes at the time.

I iron weekly. All our clothes that are creased that need ironing , that is most of them.
I also iron a set of bedding, duvet and pillowcases weekly because I change the bedding weekly.
I'd be very uncomfortable even sitting around the house in creased clothes. Even my tee-shirts start off being crease-free until they become like smelly crumpled old dishcloths because I've done the gardening in them.
I don't iron underwear or socks.
I don't mind the task too much because I can watch the telly or listen to the radio while doing it.

I iron as little as possible but still do what needs done

All my tea towels, oven cloths and napkins are pressed and stacked in the linen press.

Just like bedding they don’t feel properly clean unless pressed.

I quite like ironing. I set up my ironing board in the lounge and put something on television that I know DH wouldn’t like.
DD never irons anything and I’m afraid it shows at times. I have been known to take DGD’s top off and iron it if we have her for the day. I don’t mention it to DD though!

I haven't ironed for years. I just don't buy anything likely to need it. I wouldn't consider anything linen especially!
The only time I use an iron is if doing sewing, the last time being when making masks during lock-down!

My Morphy Richards steam iron has a wonderfully long flex, AuntieE. I iron my shirts and trousers, and used to iron DW's. Bed linen - never!

I don’t mind ironing especially on a cold day. I find something to watch on tv and tackle the ironing basket. I do draw the line at towels and underwear though. My late MIL used to iron terry nappies when the grandchildren were little!!
