I have already asked this as a newby but still can't find where to find abbreviations. Can someone help me please and thank you

I joined a week or so ago, I found the site via another parenting site.
I've enjoyed looking at the forum so far and look forward to joining in!
I have 4 grandchildren, 3 girls and a boy, and enjoy all things crafty, travelling and particularly singing!

I joined Gransnet a few weeks ago and really glad I did. I think it is could be a lifeline for many grans (and perhaps grandad's?) out there. I am retired and live on my own. Although very gregarious, I found myself in a rut and quite depressed because of a long standing health issue and failed surgeries. I take heart in the posts of others on this site. It makes you realise just how human and vulnerable we all are, no matter what our backgrounds are. And how comforting and reassuring it can be to have people step in and try to offer support.

Since joining, I have managed to set up a meet up in my area, and we're meeting for the first time soon. It's early days but small acorns and all that! I also hope to attend some of the other meetups. Gransnet definitely gets the thumbs up from me!

GrandmainOz, I'm happy for you that you have found Gransnet, it's a lovely community on here and there are some nice threads that you could perhaps join.
On the Chat Forum there's Soop's super supportive kitchen (with a wing for poorly menfolk) and the Good Morning thread started by 12Michael.
Perhaps you could start your own thread if you feel like it.
Whatever you want to do, there are lots of lovely supportive people here to chat and offer advice if needed. ?

I only discovered gransnet a short time ago, when isolation prompted me to see if anyone "like me"(!!) was out there.
Gransnet has become a little part of my daily routine and I'm so glad to have found it. I've even been brave and joined a couple of threads!
So lovely to read the thoughts of others and hear everyone's perspectives, usually the result of plenty of experience!

Hi Padine, yes Gransnet is a great place for advice , entertainment and laughter for us "Girls" and we have one or two guys on here as well.
It's definately a bit addictive and sometimes I have to be strict with myself, otherwise nothing would get done. ?

Hi, I'm a wee bit of a Newbie but have posted a few times since becoming a Granny in the summer of 2018! Now I understand the outpouring of love for these little bundles of joy!
Looking forward to reading and maybe contributing to posts now that I have found a place for "Girls of a certain age" (I don't mean old-girls either!). I enjoyed being part of other web sites and their forums, but this one has many more topics which interest me - thanks Girls!

Also could someone please explain to me what all the shorthand stands for lol. I'm thinking that GD is granddaughter? Am I right lol. The rest has just gone right over my head. All tutoring will be gratefully received ?

Hi there I'm new to grandset. I actually found mumset first and then I thought to myself I wonder if there's a forum for nanny's like myself and found you guys. I'm overwhelmed by the response I got for advice on my 4 year old grandson who will soon be having open heart surgery at Great Ormand Street. I want to be as supportive as I possibly can be for my daughter. So I'm arming myself with as much information as I possibly can. There doesn't seem to be much said online about a cleft in a mitral valve which is what my grandson has. Any advice, hing tips and support will all be gratefully received ?

Hi to everyone.
I joined Mumsnet first but found it a bit ‘intense’. Been lurking on Gransnet forums for a while and feel that in the main it seems a kinder and more supportive community (and also more appropriate to my age group!) and have enjoyed following many of the discussions herein.
I’m retired, married, and another Northener. Have DC and one adorable GC.
Lost quite a few good friends in the last few years, some to relocation and many to the ‘Big C’ including BF whom I miss enormously.
Looking forward to being part of the Gransnet community.

Been reading daily news pages for a while now. Gransnet has made me realise everyone's issues are shared by many, and as over 60 s we are not all sleeping in the grass. Looking forward to meeting up at the Glasgow coffee date. Keep up the good work everyone .

Hi I'm originally a UK mum and grandma. Moved down under 13 years ago with OH and five DC. Tragically lost DS2 to suicide five years ago which has totally changed me. I'm a shell of my former self, putting on the brave face and holding the family together. I've browsed the forums, and I know I'm far from the only mother who is the rock they have to be!
I have been blessed with 3 grandkids whom I adore in the last 3 years. I miss the UK, especially since my DM died there 10 months ago,so young still and painful for all her children and my stepfather, and I wish I could do more for my relatives there.
I am kept busy with my remaining four children and know how lucky I am to be very involved with my little grandkids. Not all ladies on here are as fortunate as I in that respect.
I really look forward to getting to know some of you. I recognize how isolated and lonely I have become - so this is my decision today: to reach out and try to rejoin the world in a little way.
