Ancestry have updated my DNA results

Did you send some spit in? How could that change from the first time they tested it? Very odd.

Mine also changed recently. As I understand it, it's because the more people that are tested, the more accurate they can pinpoint the areas people originated from, or something like that!

It sounds like they've changed the way they categorise. Perhaps they've popped Welsh in with Scottish? Very odd!

My recent dna results were a surprise as a large part of where I know I come from was missed and replaced with places I can have no connection with.
My dds results were also unexpected, they were almost completely different to mine.
Apparently I have a worldwide crowd 5 th cousins awaiting acquaintance, I cannot take this seriously.

That all makes me suspicious! Are we paying for true results?

It depends which test you took - perhaps a male relative has taken a DNA test which has been added into your family line.

I don't know where the Welsh ancestry went to, though!

My original results were not as expected and they seemed to be lumping Celtic together, saying I was Irish when I was actually Welsh. Now they seem to have extracted the Welsh and it is much more accurate. I know the results change as they have more evidence to work with over time. All I can say is that the latest results seem very accurate to me and I have researched back to the 1700s on all families.

Originally I had a drop of Spanish which was a mystery to me, but it's now gone. I am happy they are getting better results with improved research.

My results have been changed a couple of times. Sweden had been added and Ireland. I have found the whole thing really interesting. Various cousins have popped up and one of them has done a lot of research into my maternal grandmother’s family.

My daughter had hers done last year, and it showed our Jersey and Brittany decadency as Scottish/Irish (lumped all Gaelic together). they didn't seem to have a subsection for Breton.

They did get her father's Croatian/German background in though! It would be interesting to have done.

I suddenly became 29 % Scottish and I am not sure where from. Most of mine came from the Lake District originally so I guess that is quite close to the border. Also I scored some Norwegian but I guess they were busy boys those Vikings.

nanna8 I have 4% Norwegian and the village in Essex where one of my families originated was named after Viking leader Wutha so it's likely he and his boys were active round there!

The Welsh and Scots are both Celts. Is this just American mis-naming from Ancestry?

Look on the bright side. Scotland’s records are wonderful and it is very reasonably priced and instant to get copies of certificates and census returns on Scotlandspeople.

Chardy as I mentioned, they were mixing up the Celts due to insufficient DNA results in the past. Kept saying I was Irish but now they've realised I'm 53% Welsh so it seems they've got it right now. My mother was 100% Welsh.

I did my DNA through Ancestry and it gave me a link to distant cousin whose tree showed she descended from the Tolpuddle Martyrs. My own research had shown me to have descended from one of the Tolpuddle Martyrs so I do believe Ancestry. It has also given me other distant cousins from other ancestors I have traced.

Yes, as other have said they do update as they get more info so the results will change too. I seem to have links with just about all of northern Europe!

Hi yes mine has changed too, there is a link in each of the countries that explains the differentials.

I too wasn’t happy with my updated results. The original was spot on. I phoned Ancestry for an explanation but what I got in reply left me none the wiser. I did ask if other people had complained about their updates and was told they had not had other complaints. The above messages on Gransnet contradicts this statement.

Is this really safe? Exposing your DNA to a third party for storage?

I think they review all results every so often because of new data . do not think this is just you .
