Callistemon plant photos

Lovely photos folks.

With regard to looking after ours - it is a small, dryish, east facing wall between the house and the drive. Our gardener cuts it back at 'the back end' and maybe adds a feed to the bed. We don't protect it at all.

Mine only budding still, but grows well where I live, near south coast of Ireland. We always call it bottlebrush plant.

I rescued this twisted willow in 2016 from B & Q, as a small, shrivelled, dead-looking sapling at about 2 feet tall, if that - I can't remember how much it cost, if anything. I never imagined it would grow to such a height. It must be at least 30 feet tall now! I love it because it's unusual and 'funky'. DH hates it but I won't let him take it down. :-)

I think they do prefer a milder climate, but I had one on the West Coast of Scotland growing in the ground. Unfortunately the first snow for 45 years killed it.
Mine is on a pot in the E Midlands, during the winter I covered it with fleece and moved it to a sheltered part of the courtyard.
I’d keep it outside but also wrap the pot in bubble wrap for the winter. It’s the freezing of the soil that often kills plants in pots.

I only have a small yard and wonder if it would be happy to live there in Summer and come inside the house when the weather turns colder?

I didn’t know you could get the Callistemon plant to survive and grow here, as from NZ I believe?
Sometimes transported to OZ? Very pretty anyway and worth investing in and giving it a try.

This is ours today. I love it.

Such a lovely plant. Now that we’ve moved to a flat we no longer have Callistemon. I do miss my garden, especially those lovely vibrant plants that gave me so much pleasure.

This was mine on the 7th June so it’s not in its full glory.

That looks great already, I hope mine reaches such beauty, given time.

Can’t post them yet, but we are planting some in a big trough at the front of the house. I’m not good with plants, so I’m hoping these will last. Thanks for the hint about winter care J52.
