An experienced gardener told me recently that spring bulbs that start popping up in Oct/Nov/Dec time go into a sort of suspended animation once there are low temperatures or frost. They’ll then resume growing in the proper spring.

That’s right😊

Same here with bulbs, planted around 3 weeks ago and shoots already showing. Also have a tree fern that's ben throwing out new fronds for 4/5 weeks now - should be doing this in the spring.

I have a ‘bottle bush’ that is trying to flower and a large yukka in the garden has just put up its spikey flower head and it’s pretty cold here What is going on ?

My Callistemon (bottle brush) is covered in blooms, (I am in the S E)

I put some in pots about 3 weeks ago but no signs of them coming up yet.

I planted up some garden pots with Spring bulbs but they are already coming through just as the temperatures drop to zero.
Can I stop them trying to flower too early?
