Please consult a specialist nursery on this . I can recommend Burncoose , but there are many more . After several years , my beautiful Acers have died . They need ericaceous soil and prefer rainwater . I'll protect my replacement Acers with old carpeting in Winter and a clothes horse draped in old sheets in Summer . So they aren't going to look decorative all year round !
Japanese maples grow in the Himalayas and do very well in Scotland where the soil and climate is similar. They will scorch in heat and 30+ is certainly too hot. They also require ericaceous soil, so unless your soil is suitable a tree would be best in a planter. If in a planter you could give the tree some shade.
Blossoming and Jaxjacky. I never realized there were so many Acers to choose from nor that some are green. I picked one, Red Dragon, and added it to the Mother’s Day list, (which is coming soon in France). It seems it can stand full sun, although it will need some protection in winter and can be grown in a pot.
I would like to buy the brightest red leaved Japanese maple tree for my south facing balcony. However, it can regularly be 30+ in summer and -5 in winter. Any suggestions welcomed, as I am overwhelmed, there is such a choice. Thank you.
